This painting was flagged up in a book I am reading atm (Portable Magic @oldfortunatus.bsky.social ) and whilst I'm pretty sure I have seen it before it hadn't really lodged in my memory
I give you Giuseppe Arcimboldo's c 1566 painting, The Librarian

al-Qaeda has just about taken over Mali. I thought maybe have a look at that country's natural resources.
Not oil, but the final part of this caught my eye 😉
"We need to stamp al-Qaeda out. We shall run a crusade in Mali. Thank you for your attention"

Captures the essence of the lady and her work I feel
Photo is by Michael 'Nick' Nicholls, taken in Brazzaville in 1990 using a 35mm camera

There's always the exception to the rule of course! Hume was an exception as you indicate. I'm tempted to suggest, lucky, in the context that most departed before half of his four score years plus eleven!

Today, Labour completely lost any lingering hope I had that they are good for this country. Their culture is just completely alien to me now
Mahmood is wrong
It's NOT un-British to protest when you think something is very very wrong and that your country bears some culpability for the mess

I've noticed how more and more opposition to Trump's EOs on line is couched in terms of which part of the Constitution it transgresses. I think that is to leave a track record for later use against him
There's no doubt he is moving towards Govt by Exec Order
The question is will the courts let him

This is a one of those graphs that raises the eyebrows
The COVID cost to staff working in NHS England
Not sure whether that trend is equivalent to the population as a whole
More worrying is why its climbed from 900 to a rate of around 1300 in the last few years. 30%+ increase 🫤

Well that's the first fenugreek crop secured. Plants grown from seed in a pot, leaves used in salads and seeds left to set so plenty of seed for next year and for use in the kitchen during the year
We also dried some of the leaves which we will experiment with using

No idea if this is an AI attempt to stick heads on bodies or a human being trying with Photoshop (other editing resources are available) to get the four heads of the main characters facing mainly forwards but what on earth are those two heads doing on the left?
