We’ve bombed Iran. And dismantled our joint terrorism task force. And sent a third of the FBI to help ICE. And gutted the National Security Council. And a drunk guy is in charge at the pentagon. And our intelligence allies probably won’t share intel with us. Because people couldn’t vote for a woman.

Presidents of both parties have muddied the water on unilateral presidential military action, but an attack on a sovereign nation with barely even a pretext of a lawful reason, no congressional involvement or even interest, and no UN involvement would be a new low for “checks and balances.”
I cannot say often enough that for all his narcissistic swanning about the stage "agonizing" about "his" decision, the Constitution flatly forbids Trump from attacking a sovereign country that has not attacked the US without obtaining congressional consent.
1/2 Marker of our times:

Public discuss has normalized idea that whatever is churning around in Trump's mind can, *w no restraint or involvement from anyone else,* plunge world into recession ("my tariffs") or major war (Iran)

And that he'll make "reveal" of his whim something like 'Survivor.'

From skincare to dating apps, age verification bills are creeping into unexpected places, and the privacy risks are growing.
First Porn, Now Skin Cream? ‘Age Verification’ Bills Are Out of Control
I’m old enough to remember when age verification bills were pitched as a way to ‘save the kids from porn’ and shield them from other vague dangers lurking in the digital world (like…“the transgender”)...

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was just demolished by Musk’s team. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 million.

A thread about 18F:
18F is *precisely* what Musk and team claim should exist within government. But when his team found it, they destroyed it, because it is evidence that government works well (can’t have that!), and because like Zelensky, 18F didn’t bend the knee.

NEW: A searing editorial in the The Kyiv Independent.

“It’s time to say it plainly. America’s leadership has switched sides in the war. The American people have not, and they should speak up.

This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.
I'm sure many have said this before but I'm reading a student-facing document about how students might use AI in the classroom (if allowed) and one of the recs is: use AI to make an outline of your reading! But ISN'T MAKING THE OUTLINE how one actually learns?

Check out the details in these newly unsealed court documents in the #whatsapp vs #NSOGroup litigation case. Some surprising findings ... some of which validate what we and others have been saying for years
Whoa: NSO Group allegedly rolled a #WhatsApp exploit to implant #Pegasus spyware even after WhatsApp sued them.

This previously-unrevealed "Erised" vector was later disabled by WhatsApp.

These un-redacted filings are quite the read. Even some footnotes have scoops. 1/

Many commentators say that vigilante groups are never the answer. But they clearly don't know about the masked Ecuadorian trio named “Acción Ortográfica Quito,” who roam the streets at night with a singular purpose: to correct all the spelling and grammar mistakes they find in graffiti.

NEW! "Cars Are Done" with Adam McKay."

The Oscar–winner talks about the existential anxiety that led him to write and direct "Don’t Look Up" and why comedy is good for tackling big problems. Plus, why the age of the car is over… even if people don’t know it yet.
