A very good thread here. The problem is with the people who want the control.
I should write the argument up properly somewhere, but I think this is fundamentally wrong. A decisive fraction of the capitalist class does oppose addressing the climate crisis, but *not* because it would be bad for profits. If anything, a green New Deal type program would raise aggregate profits.
Yes, this is correct. And the reason is because our capitalist classes have decided that it is not sufficiently profitable, so they're not going to do it.

We must understand this reality. Capital *cannot* be relied upon to address the climate crisis.

Trump is directing his Sec of War to send troops, using full force, into a US city, to fight a siege he made up, being fought by a group that doesn’t exist.

He’s declaring war on Americans exercising their 1st amendment rights to speak out and protest his attacks on democracy.

Climate change is a far bigger contributor to food price inflation than federal climate policies in Canada. At some point, even the most blinkered Conservative partisan is going to have to face up to this politically inconvenient truth, @maxfawcett.bsky.social writes.
Canada’s Conservatives can’t quit their grocery price politicking
Climate change is obviously driving up the cost of food. Why can’t Canada’s Conservatives admit it?

This makes me sad. Because I am having the same thoughts. It’s hard to see someone whose opinions I generally trust to be right aligning with my fears, but we’re not transitioning, we’re not bending the emissions curve, even as the impacts continue to grow. 💰>>>> sustainable society and ecosystems.

The Province of Alberta’s response to increasing methane flaring is to do something about it.*

* - The thing Alberta is doing is to get rid of the flaring target, not the flaring.

NEW: Car bonnets are becoming a half-centimetre higher every year, driving road safety fears.

This #carspreading trend where supersized SUVs crowd out space in towns and cities is also leading to cars that are more dangerous in a crash.

I cannot recommend the work of @blakeshaffer.bsky.social highly enough. It's rare that I find people with his understanding and skill at showing me new layers on things I thought I understood. Here's another case of that.
It's always been part of the national vision.
The barriers are still there, waiting to be overcome.
But the benefits---and urgency---have grown.

Forget America; it's time to build the east-west power grid.

@katmabu.bsky.social is the kind of hero we need.
I don't want to see a single person saying this was warranted by the carnage in Gaza, that this was for Palestinians.

I am a Palestinian person and I do not want senseless acts of terror committed in my name. I don't want Jewish organizations to need extra security because of fear of violence.
