I'm a senior lecturer of IT, used to be an entrepreneur and a software engineer. Here's I'm just going to post about movies I've liked, but also I would rather talk about weird indie films.

He/him, but as a Finn, I don't really care, so any/all is fine.
Weird that in The House of Dynamite, the POTUS would use for his entrance a song that was described by the author like this: "I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but there's a lot of anger, a lot of despair and a lot of frustration."

(In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins)

It is so nice that the Photos app chooses to remind me of memories from the current year. Like that time I needed to take a photo of my friend's Wi-Fi password, because I couldn't read the small print otherwise. Oh, what golden memories I will cherish forever.

I was at a One Battle After Another screening. There was a fire alarm. It took ages before snyone realized it wasn’t just something in the movie. (No actual fire though.) #filmsky

I finally watched all the movies on the Sight & Sound Critics' Poll of 2022. It took only two and half years. And change. So, I decided to write about it. blog.guildredemund.net/2025/07/28/i...

I Have Finally Seen All the Movies on the Sight & Sound Critics’ Poll of 2022
That’s 264 movies. I have seen quite a few before I started this almost three years ago when the list was published, but since many of the movies are not readily available, it took me this lo…

Witches (2024).

Found this on MUBI and also found it very compelling. As a cishet man, I will never experience this, but I have been reading a lot about witch hunts and trials lately and this was a very different and interesting way to look at those. Also, just devastating.

Atun-Shei, who directed the great little micro-budgeted folk horror film The Sudbury Devil a few years back, has announced a new project, which sound intriguing.

Kim Gordon updated her song Bye Bye with lyrics consisting of words banned by the current US administration in grant applications. "Peanut allergy"? I did not know that was a thing they had a problem with.

A request: Back in late '22, when the latest Sight & Sound Critics' Poll dropped, I decided to try to watch them all. Now out of the 264, I've seen 261 and located 2 more. The missing one is The Intruder (L'intrus) by Claire Denis. Any ideas where one could find it?

What am I supposed to be getting out of Warfare? I just kept thinking that these people are invaders in this country and they are keeping two families imprisoned for reasons we are not made aware of while obviously causing the attack they suffer through their own incompetence. #filmsky

I don't really mind that Schrader feels that ChatGPT can help him, but how does he feel entitled to say that other filmmakers, who are much better than him, could benefit as well? I would hope directors make movies out of passion.

A question regarding People's Joker: There's a shirt that says Hicks & Carlin & Pryor & Travalen. I know the first three names, but "Travalen"? Who or what is that? Is that an in-joke cishet me is not even supposed to understand?

Great movie, btw.

For Finnish Independence Day, I went to see a Bhutanese movie about their ambivalence towards voting (The Monk and the Gun). Reminded me of a Finnish novel from 1909 (just a few years after the first elections in Finland) called Punainen viiva (The Red Line), a very different approach.

For Finnish Independence Day I am going to celebrate the inclusion of Valkoinen Peura (1952, The White Deer) in All the Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror: Volume Two. It's a little cautionary tale of what not to do when your husband is a deer herder and hus often away for work.

Went to see Shadowland yesterday. Full frontal Richard Stanley, anyone? Anyone? Huh.

While I am atheist, I am interested in occult practices, so the movie hit in that regard, but it also ends up discussing the grifting around these topics, although from an unxpected (to me) perspective.

In general, a movie with a high critic score but low audience score is basically a must-watch for me, but what about when a movie has 10 user reviews on IMDb, 9 of which are very positive, but they have all been ratiod while the only negative review is the one people like?
