Fantasy writer, weaver of words and worlds. Admirer of intriguing monsters, cunning ladies, and nefarious villains. Lovely to meet you!
Language is a semi-frequent barrier in my current story.

It takes place in a town occupied by foreigners. The MC, Cayan, speaks both his native Myner, and the foreign Loulan. And he is one of the only people who does, so several times he has to translate for others.

One of my characters - Kealin - goes by several different names depending on context. Her normal name to friends and family.

'Lady Valanthyr' - in official and noble circles.

'Cirsten' - when she is being under cover.

'Briar' - during her work as a criminal fixer and problem solver.

In Needles - Cayan's relationship with his family is bed, in the sad tragic kind of way.

His son died (the reason is revealed in the story), which caused his wife to leave him. They still care for each other, but Cayan's self-loathing is not doing anyone around him any favours.

Selendis has six seasons - hibernal, prevernal, vernal, autumnal, aestival, serotinal

But the seasons do not have fixed length or order. Each can last from a few weeks to months, or years in rare cases. And they can come in any order. But each season is common/rare in different places of the world.

Very much so. A lot of nobles and other high-status people also sponsor poor people to become scholars so anything that person later discovers or develop etc. reflect back as prestige on the sponsor.

A smaller but still relevant number also does purely as a charitable way to help.

They don't have steam-power, electricity, or microscopes. Or any technology derived from those inventions. But otherwise they are very learned.

They have two sciences - alchemy and artifice - that allows them to do many things that we can't, especially in medicine and metallurgy.

It various by 'subject'. But in general you can probably think of it as renaissance adjacent.

They have gun weaponry, but they use alchemical substances instead of gunpowder, so guns are more rare comparative to our worlds.

Alchemy is one of the important and prominent sciences in my setting, and is the art of altering, enhancing, and transmuting materials and substances.

The deuteragonist of 'Needles of Life', Zeare, is an alchemical physician, and uses alchemy in medicine.

Most nations have divine creation myths - such as being shaped by the gods from clay, or similar.

Some scholars have varied theories that would feel evolution-adjacent.

One clue about the actual truth is that many supernatural beings address mortals with the moniker 'dustborn'.

Many academies will readily accept students who can prove their intelligence.
Sometimes they will need sponsors to attend, but other places have funds specifically set up for students to poor to pay for the admittance, as long as they can prove that the smart enough to belong.

Science - or scholarship as they would call it - is mostly reserved for the elite because they're the ones with the money and connections to get tutors or attend universities and academies.

But this is usually convention rather than law...

Nothing better than having fun and experimenting when painting.

I mean the baron's guards probably do deserve, but still... maybe be careful about it ^^

Sylian is very touchy. She loves to caress and touch people that she is engaging and playing with - especially when she is complimenting and threatening them in equal measure.

Also, I will note that it is some really great questions that you have had these last few weeks. I have just been very busy, and not been a lot on Bluesky.

The problem comes with the various denominations and interpretations.

Some believes that everyone should treat everyone else kindly.

Others argue that others should be treated kindly 'if they deserve it'.

And yet others argue that these tenants applies, but only to other members of the religion.

In Selendis the major religion - call Asharn - have a very sharp view on morality. And several of the major tenants are about being kind to ones fellow people, seeing the good in others, and trying to leave the world a better place than you found it.

That story is one of my favourites that I have ever written. It was a joy to write and I thrilled you like it that much ❤️‍🔥

She looks spectacular, you did a phenomenal job on her! ♥️
November 10, 2025 at 8:31 PM
And good on you for doing that ^^

Kelaris was always my character. And obviously I love her enough to use her as my pfp. So it won't be hard to use her elsewhere, I just need to find a story that fits her 🔥

Hmmm, that is one way to do it. I know that in my drawing program where you can make layers more transparent, so you can see through them to reference underneath.
November 9, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Unlikely - this was a semi-fanfic story I wrote with my previous friend group who all had stories in the same world. And given that we have fallen off I doubt I'll continue it.

However, I am still fond of the story, so I might burrow elements, ideas, and characters from it for a new one some day.
