Conservative watchers I think, misinterpret One Piece as apolitical because Luffy acts not from a political motivation and they believe that this means the show somehow isn’t political.

He’s a man of simple means that finds goodness in the common person and cannot fathom earning power through immoral or deceptive acts. Luffy doesn’t understand the entire ramifications of fighting some of his enemies because he’s looking out for the common people/good.

Luffy will never be a well read revolutionary, he’ll be an emotionally charged man that fights out of a strong moral conviction that bigotry, slavery, & corruption are 100% wrong. He fights to save & remove imperial forces and global powers that have trapped & harmed those he calls friends.
