Fiction isn’t supposed to be a life lesson. If you see suicide in fiction and think that’s your answer, you need psychological help.

I honestly don't understand how having a character struggle his entire life with depression, homophobia, and social subjugation would makes any narrative sense to conclude his story by killing himself. There are ppl in real life who have these struggles, should that also be their answer?

tbh the interesting thing about lobotomies, when you start researching, is how UP IN ARMS people get at the idea that they were given to queers, or uppity women, or whatnot. rarely do you see anyone saying "yeah, lobotomies were EXACTLY the same level of tragedy for psychotic people as anybody else"
