This train goes from Narita to Hamada (eventually) and some of the signals have a little ✈️ logo

Anyway, welcome to Japan!

Here’s to jumping right into the train action.

Me: I’m going to take a video showing my super entry to the Keisei SKY ACCESS fare gates at Narita

Also me: Forgot to turn on my watch’s express transit card for my ICOCA card

Definitely an old school economy flight with Korean Air.

I stared out the window at our winglet-less wing, watched the overhead moving map try to tell us where we were, ate a decent meal of fish and rice at 10am, and gawked at Mt Fuji for a while.

This did play this on arrival

Folks, we’ve got drop down video monitors. I haven’t seen these in *ages*

Good morning and welcome aboard Korean Air flight KE2129, with nonstop service from Busan to Tokyo Narita.

Today’s flight is operated with a 737-900. No, not a 737-900ER. A 737-900! Only 52 made, it’s certainly Boeing’s least successful modern aircraft. It’s old school on board this thing. #PaxEx

A big change since my
Last visit to South Korea in 2019 is that Apple Pay (and non-Korean credit cards) is accepted virtually everywhere now.

But I’m still old enough to remember back to a time before NFC payment was popular and Samsung Pay did some weird contactless magnetic stripe hack thingy.

Here’s a better look at the e-ink display during the day

Meanwhile, South Korea teleco’s seems to be allowed to place outdoor macro cellular antenna basically anywhere. The same equipment US carrier put on rooftops.

Inside a train station? Giant antenna.
On a nature hike? Giant antenna.
At a tourist spot? Giant antenna, and put a bench in front of them.

Busan has an unbelievable amount of cafes and coffee shops. I think every other business here is a cute little coffee shop and they’re all pretty damn good.

Many shelters have had LED boards for decades but have only ever shown time and temperature, outside of a short trail on the M34 SBS a decade ago. Those displays just vanished and it never expanded. I would love to know more about this trial but there’s no info at all.

Yea! E-ink is somewhat few and far between here. Notably, I haven’t seen any broken or offline screens. I’ve also seen these quite a bit.

For @marcebuna.info, the many faces of Busan’s bus arrival info screens. There are more types than I can send photos here.

Another way basically any Asian city runs laps around NYCDOT and MTA.

The Busan Metro has a lot of pretty art, but this piece stopped us in our tracks.

It’s so simple but brilliant. Both artwork and functional public safety.

I could show you more drone show, but I’m more impressed by the pedestrian safety infrastructure in Busan.

Many crosswalks are illuminated with floodlights, dotted with in-roadway lighting, and curbs have pedestrian signal lighting. Any one of these things are basically unheard of in US cities.

Our ride ended in the bus depot. Not outside the bus depot. IN the actual bus depot 🤯
November 29, 2025 at 10:11 AM
Also this bus has free gigabit+ Wi-Fi. Unreal 🤣🤣🤣
November 29, 2025 at 9:40 AM
Bus priority infrastructure in Asian cities always stuns me. Our electric bus (that runs every 10 minutes) is speeding down a center running bus lane.

It’s a ~40 minute ride to dinner and I’m seriously enjoying it.

Busan’s Gwahgbok-ro Fashion Street is a fantastic curved roadway design to force low vehicle speeds, and is fully pedestrianized on weekends.

Streets are for people, etc. l

Shutout to grill master @wandrme.paxex.aero for BBQing for like 90 minutes. Job well done!

Busan is a seafood town. So for lunch we had seafood. All of the seafood.

And some pork for good measure.
November 29, 2025 at 4:37 AM
Doing the required Busan tourist attractions, day 2.

Songdo Yonggung Suspension Bridge and Busan Air Cruise.
