Mask Mandate Returns At New Jersey Hospitals.

Respiratory virus season has prompted mask mandates in New Jersey: Hackensack Meridian Health (17 hospitals) and RWJBarnabas Health (14 hospitals) now require masks for visitors as of Dec. 1.

He debated whether he should try to call out on the satcom system first, but whatever the security team had been shooting at could easily be heading this way, and and the crew entry door was hanging open. The last thing he wanted to do was go back down those steps, but there was little choice. He desperately wanted to close that door. As he moved toward the stairs, he froze at a faint but distinct click-click-clik sound somewhere deep in the cargo bay and felt a tiny but perceptible motion of the C-17’s deck, as if something heavy had shifted position in the hold. Peering down the stairwell, he couldn’t see anything beyond the faint glow that reached the cargo deck from the lights in the cockpit. “Hello?” His voice came out as little more than a hoarse whisper. Silence. He took the first step down, trying to avoid the blood. Then another step. And another. He had his phone in his hand and could have turned on its flashlight. Part of him wanted to, the other part was terrified. Click-click-click. Rodriguez froze. He was far enough down the steps that he could see a few feet into the cargo bay. Past the starlight shining in from the crew entry door, everything was pitch black. Yet he was sure he could see something shifting in the darkness, accompanied by a strange rasping sound that, while not particularly loud, seemed to reverberate through the hold. The vision of the whatever-it-was he’d seen while driving here flashed into his mind. Finally on the deck, he flipped around to his right into the loadmaster’s station. Reaching out, he groped around for a moment before found the switches that controlled the lights in the cargo compartment. Taking a deep breath, Rodriguez flipped them on as he stared aft into the darkened bay. “Oh, my God,” was all he had time to whisper before Death came for him.

Sometimes, sticking to your principles makes things inconvenient, uncomfortable & can cause others to perceive you as "difficult" or "idealistic." Yes, well, in my case, it means my pacifism and commitment to ahimsa means I won't punch you or infect you with a life-altering virus. So everyone wins.✌️

I was recently advised by a nurse's assistant to ditch my N95 before speaking with my PCP. Luckily, he was wearing his mask when he came in a few minutes later, said he always felt more comfortable in a mask, and told me to do what I needed to do re: masking.

6 years today the first COVID case was identified in a man in Wuhan marking the beginning of a global pandemic that changed the world. We are way less prepared today to face another pandemic than we were back then. This fact makes me sad.
