How will the structure of my 5th and 6th year classes change if Norma Foley's new English Leaving Cert cones in?
And how will this impact on my students' education?
I wrote a blog about these questions.

What will Norma Foley's new English course look like?
Norma Foley has decided, without any consultation, that creative writing and the comparative will be examined via the AAC (project) during...

This is a great saying! I always say kill them with kindness but this might be my new saying! #kindness #EduSky #teachers
There’s nearly always (always!) an opportunity to be a little kinder than you have to be.

This is definitely one to share with the fifth and sixth years. Lots of food for thought.
A lot of discussion lately about the reasons for the decline of Eng Lit A-level.

Are the Gove curriculum & exam reforms to blame?

I don't think so, because the decline of Eng Lit / the humanities more broadly is a global trend.

Following a recent article about the Leaving Certificate, worth restating that -

👉spreading assessment will increase, not mitigate, stress.
👉None of the proposals are for 'continuous assessment'.
👉English Leaving Cert is not a test of rote learning.

In almost 40 years of teaching, I have yet to find a teacher who prepares Leaving Cert students by ‘rote learning’
There are grounds to criticise the English exam, but it can only be successfully tackled with critical thinking

I would politely suggest that officialdom in Irish Education (particularly the support services!) migrate their material and updates from X to here. It is so unfair that teachers are forced to engage with that platform in an effort to be informed. #edchatie
