Looking for some hope in this Pandora’s box of a world. I’m into: insightful, empathetic, broadly leftist political writing, fantasy/scifi/19th-century BritLit, plucky heroines, artistic gymnastics, and a good laugh when I can get one.
Shout out to James Herriot’s Treasury for Children for being one of the few non-truck-centric books my toddler is obsessed with.

Just had the following conversation with my toddler during a diaper change:

Me: You wear Pull-Ups during the day but diapers at night, so I’m putting a diaper on you, okay.
2YO: There’s Huggies and Pampers and Pull-Ups and my favorite is Pull-Ups.
Me: …okay, but you have to wear a diaper now.

The other day I was listening to a podcast I like do a revisit of Inception, which is a personal favorite, and in general it was a fun listen, but one of the hosts clearly didn’t vibe with the Page character, and that ground my gears a bit. (Intentionally not naming names but iykyk.)

My two-year-old, seeing me eat some chia pudding for breakfast this morning and sidling up to me on the couch, sweetly asked me, “Do you want some?”

Yes, kid, I want the food I am currently eating, but I guess you can have a bite, too. Pronouns are not a strong suit yet!

Just a reminder that most of Trump's executive orders are nothing more than press releases.

After he ordered the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to pull funding for NPR and PBS, the CPB responded that it is authorized and funded by Congress and is not subject to the president's authority.

Rubio's gutting of USAID is illegal and unconstitutional. There is no form of democracy anywhere of any kind that would allow the executive branch to unilaterally cancel budgets and programs passed by the legislative branch and signed into law. It's utter lawlessness.

Sometimes parenting is sitting blearily on the couch with a blanket while my toddler gathers toy construction vehicles and imagines they are dumping a metric ton of fruit.

My brother was laid off from his probationary Park Service job today. He loved being a ranger. This is utter lunacy.

Law professors pushing theories to end birthright citizenship are not acting in good faith. Their arguments are contrary to the Constitution, which isn’t ambiguous, & terrifying to millions. They can debate in the faculty lounge but in the wider world, we should not pretend this is a legitimate view

Congrats to all the dummies of every political stripe. Y’all really got your man.
It took Trump 3 hours to delete the Spanish version of the White House website and the White House’s Spanish Twitter account.

Trump won 42% of the Hispanic vote.

Trying not to get too excited about a project that’s likely 2+ years from release and will inevitably fail to match my own creative vision, but all I’ve ever wanted is an HP miniseries and I keep hearing tidbits like how the showrunners want to cast an appropriately aged Snape and I can’t help it.

I missed this when first posted due to a self-imposed media blackout in my fog of denial, but this really resonated with me as a fellow parent of a small child. Things feel so bleak, and yet afternoon strolls must be taken and bedtime stories must be read. Everything for him, despite it all.
