Looking for some hope in this Pandora’s box of a world. I’m into: insightful, empathetic, broadly leftist political writing, fantasy/scifi/19th-century BritLit, plucky heroines, artistic gymnastics, and a good laugh when I can get one.
Not to be that mom, but a) Pull-Ups ARE Huggies, and b) my kid wears Kirkland Signature and has since birth, with very few exceptions. Also, what?

This is a me problem! But yeah, that particular episode stuck in my craw enough I’m still mulling it over in my head and posting about it on a platform I’m pretty quiet on, so yeah.

I’ll also cop to having a specific relationship to the things I like, and sometimes people I otherwise respect not liking them in the same way can be weirdly tough for me. (Like several friends/acquaintances IRL hate Ron from HP, and I love him, so it’s honestly hard to talk HP with them.)

I’ll also lay my cards on the table in that I like the Ariadne character despite this because I enjoyed what Page brought to the role, and I also enjoyed the light flirtation with the JGL character, which this host really didn’t.

Obviously she’s entitled to her opinion, and there are valid critiques one can make of that character. Is she exposition-heavy? Yes. Should Nolan have given her about a third fewer questions in dialogue? Yep. But there was a surprising level of hostile subtext there that honestly bummed me out.

My park ranger brother officially got his reinstatement call! Absolutely possible the administration finds another way to jerk him around, but for now, I’m thrilled for him.

Law professors pushing theories to end birthright citizenship are not acting in good faith. Their arguments are contrary to the Constitution, which isn’t ambiguous, & terrifying to millions. They can debate in the faculty lounge but in the wider world, we should not pretend this is a legitimate view

Though my hot take is that an HP miniseries should be animated, which avoids child actor and chemistry problems and allows for much more freedom with the visuals of magic. Suspending disbelief is so much easier when the fantastical elements look organic to the environment.

HBO exec: This is going to be a “very very specifically British 1990s production.”

Me: 👀
