Most years, I try to make New Year’s cards for friends & family based on the Chinese zodiac for the upcoming year —mainly because I am unimaginative & it provides a theme, plus I can reuse parts, changing out the color scheme. It feels good to make things by hand.

Next year is the Fire Horse.

This was incredible. The carving was world class craftsmanship, but the fact they reused old shipping crates as their base material?

Why can’t we just use what we already have well? And why are people who can do work like *this* not honored for their extraordinary skill more often & with humility?
