Yesterday morning’s east view was remarkably similar to today’s: a low band of grey-blue clouds on the horizon under open skies, dawn light coming in pastel-peach behind them & reflecting on the water in soft tones. You can hear the shaky whistle of goldeneye wings, their “beeps” & mallard quacks.

Freezing fog blanketed parts of #SouthWesternOntario this morning which created a stunning canvas for Mother Nature. ❤️🇨🇦

We let go of the false idea that anything could be different right now, in this very moment.

Instead: the sounds. Instead: the sight. Instead: the feelings.

Instead: everything just as it is.

Friday morning, ice shelf update from my local stretch of shore. This was the coldest day yet, and required breaks between photos to warm my hands. There was open water by shore; yesterday’s slushy ice either thrown up on the shelf or pushed out a bit. A goldeneye was fishing in the protected gap.

Today’s ice shelf update, including the beginning of the Southern Ontario snowstorm…
It’s rough on shore. At home, mere blocks away, the snow falls more or less downwards. Here, whipped up by the icy winds off the water - snow daggers straight into the eyes.
I’m dressed for it otherwise (except 🕶️)

Peaceful enough when you’re inside… not fun at all if you try to get anywhere by any means.
The kid walked home, on the roads the whole way. Ghost town, he said.
