the problem with working through some thoughts in your sleep is that sometimes your eyes shoot open at 4am like spengbab and you need to write things down to go back to sleep.

* the original was damaged, and while i was able to match nearly all of the original characters, some needed to be modified to fit the original style, especially the character for "pat", which more closely resembles a clerical script.

a work-in-progress: for fun, i spent the last 3 days researching, restoring, adjusting*, and preparing a bit of ming dynasty-era chinese poetry for linocut reproduction.
in modern script, it reads 抚剑伤世路, which can be translated to "stroking the sword while lamenting the social realities"

i do linocut reproduction, a lot of upcycling and mixed media painting. i've been painting on disks, tiles, old lcd panels, routers, records, etc. there's a ton of options, but without patronage/patreonage, it's not sustainable, and products are a common supplement.

here's a visual representation of one of the pages i look over most frequently, "overall art process". it's a general checklist and reminder of how i tend to work, with links to more specific things, like specific techniques, etc. i can browse them all by clicking links, like on a web page.

i hadn't planned on reposting this #mixedmedia #selfportrait, but my relationship with it has changed. initially, a representation of the unfair competition posed by gen. "ai" as visual spam, it has also become symbolic of my feeling overwhelmed.

now that i'm back in town, going to try for daily art creation this month.
day 1: i'm repairing a "live laugh love" tchotchke for an acquaintance who really likes the piece. used a two-part resin to do the primary repair and durham's putty to fill in the gaps, and will paint after everything cures.

this tiny acrylic portrait of @gordi.bsky.social is one of my favorite works, and was done in under an hour, no sketch. looking back on it, i also really like the one of @cathoderaydude.bsky.social (i didn't have a good yellow at the time). i forget who the Figure Friday lab model was, though. :/
