This is your yearly reminder that there's no real shortcut to caramelizing onions, and anyone who tells you they take under half an hour is a filthy liar. HOWEVER! One small help I've used for years now is adding water, covering the onions, and boil until they collapse. Save yourself ten minutes!

So yeah I may have installed the PR I filter a *wee* bit high, but it's still VERY CONVENIENT. Love stock time. Smells SO GOOD. Bonus pupper in his new jacket.

I shared my thanksgiving spreadsheet with my mom and my sister and had Matt check it to see if anything he wanted was missing, and now both my mom and Matt both made fun of me for putting turkey in the "other" column. The columns are in order of importance, though sides and veg are really tied.
Spreadsheet of food lists. The columns are PIES (coconut, cheesecake, pecan, mini pumpkin, chocolate, berry, pumpkin chiffon, cherry), VEG (green bean casserole, sweet potato, corn, peas, asparagus, Brussels, butternut squash), SIDES (rolls, cranberry sauce, stuffing, onion gravy, biscuits, turkey stuffing, mashed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms), and OTHER (veg roast, wine, turkey).

Emrhys got to meet THREE new dogs, TWO new kittens, CHICKENS, and SEVERAL HORSES today. I'm very very very happy with how it all went!!

Scissors update! Apparently they're shears because they're huge? Iono. They're Wiss, made in Jersey, no idea how old because the factory made these for decades with very few changes, but I bought a sharpening block and I'm gonna TRY now that most of the rust is gone.
A large pair of straight shears which have been cleaned and sanded to remove the rust. Much of the black paint on the handles is missing and there's some pitting in the metal but they look pretty good, with the blades at least bare metal now and starting to be shiny. The scissors are held in a very dirty hand. Same scissors very dirty and rusty and zero percent shiny metal held in a much cleaner hand.

Accidentally made the sleeping beauty cake for my mom's birthday 😂

I'M DONE THOUGH. It looks better than I feared because I messed up the whipped ganache. (Don't ask. I should not do experiments when I'm making a birthday cake.)

Did I cry because I loved how Penny matched the fall leaves, and how beautiful she was, and how Emrhys is doing gremlin ears more and it just makes me miss her more? Yes. However! There are also cat snuggles and hats.

he's a PUPPY, and yes I do still miss her terribly because *a* dog is not *my* dog, my little princess, but it really is such a joy to have a dog again and LOOK HOW SMART HE IS. "Target" means "step on your silicone collapsible bowl," "Touch" means nose my hand, VERY useful for off-leash hikes.

Okay I gotta brag about this puppy. I had a breakfast burrito and because I don't give him table scraps but I DO give him treats after I'm done eating if he leaves me alone, I can have breakfast in bed unharassed* and he just waits patiently, with a little side eye.

*From dog. Cat is another story.

The puppy is a FANATIC about worms. Dessicated driveway worms? Yanks the leash to snarf them up from the pavement. Worms in the grass? He will DIG THEM UP to chow down.
