We famously use our military to keep the wind flowing around the world. Why we just sent an aircraft carrier to Venezuela to potentially seize their wind.

We look the other way when wind tyrants use their turbine blades to hack up dissidents.

Nothing like that for fossil fuels.
KERNEN: Does the admin want to dismantle wind projects that are getting started?

WRIGHT: The track record is bad. We've spent hundreds of billions of subsidies for an energy source that's sometimes there. The main goal is to stop subsidizing. There are no meaningful subsidies for fossil fuels

Subways/busses are far safer than two-lane country blacktops.
Every time I see conservative fearmongering about how dangerous the NYC subway is, I feel the need to defend it. I grew up in Ohio. It’s cars that are dangerous. It’s car accidents that are terrifyingly common. I’m not being dramatic when I say the subway is one of the best parts of my life now.

While there's no question this is a good thing, I will miss the fun of gawking at the out-of-towners in their rental cars with the thousand yard stare wondering why Google got them into this mess.
At long last, after decades, Seattle has taken the smallest of steps, banning tourist vehicles from Pike Place Market "during the daytime."

Just cosmically ludicrous that it's taken this long & been so controversial.
More walking, fewer wheels at Pike Place Market
Vehicle restrictions aim to boost pedestrian safety during peak hours at Seattle's famous market.

1000x this.
The thing is, it is the nature of reactionary psychology to believe on a deep brainstem level that *everyone* acts this way, that everyone is out for themselves and their own advantage, that all talk of principles is bullshit. It is fundamental to their worldview.

Garbage politician has never heard of "garbage in, garbage out".
Johnson: "Elon's cracked the code. He's now inside these agencies. He's created these algorithms that are constantly crawling through the data & as he told me in his office, data doesn't lie. We're gonna be able to get the information. We're gonna be able to transform the way federal govt works."

Hard disagree. If the quote does not contain the period then it shouldn't be in it. We already do that for ? And !

Consider the computer instruction case.

Type "format c: /s /y".
vs
Type "format c: /s /y."

Only one will result in a shiny new hard drive!
The style of placing a period outside of a quotation mark is so perverted. It is dog shit to me.

You will all know I have been kidnapped or bodysnatched if I ever use the phrase "begs the question" to mean "raises the question".
You all will know I have been kidnapped or bodysnatched if I ever use the phrase I could care less.
You all will know I have been kidnapped or bodysnatched if I ever use the word epistemological.

I have no opinion RN about 2026. 2028 w/Vance as VP and the current (or worse) Supreme Court will *not* be a fair election. Sufficient electors will be denied to throw to the house or Congress will refuse to certify and "Speaker Trump" will become president.

We need to come to terms with that.

We haven't had a healthy center-right party in the US for... At least 100 years.
👇🎯 Nothing makes all kinds of very online people here on Bluesky more angry than the very true, utterly banal, & deeply unpopular belief, often articulated by smart mainstream Democrats like Pete Buttigieg & Nancy Pelosi, that durable 🇺🇸 democracy requires a healthy center-right pro-democracy party.
Counterpoint: Giving Republicans a permission structure (yes, that phrase is real and important) to vote for Harris is good. And no one in the Democratic party is better at it that Pete.

I'm not about to read Isaacson's biography to get details, but this sure sounds like someone stumbling on the Martingale strategy and deciding they're a genius and no around them knowing that's a (bad) thing.

Which I think is far more revealing than any "what a risk taker" type hagiography.
This isn't a man who "understands risk." It's a man who inherited enough money that he's never faced risk in his life.

Back in the day we used to say, "What's the difference between Google & Microsoft? About 15 years."

Turns out that was wrong. Looks like it was 23 years.
Here's our first stab at the news that Google has been found guilty of being a monopoly, from @lukewgoldstein.bsky.social and I. We'll have more coverage this week of this historic ruling.
Federal Judge: Google Is a Monopoly
Today on TAP: The Justice Department just won its case against Google.

A tale of two headlines. Same organization. Both the day of the verdict. Note that Biden's headline focuses on what he did, whereas the Trump headline focuses on the consequence of the court proceedings.
