But also, if there’s a warrant for your arrest, can’t the Guards kinda insist on coming into the house to get you?! Otherwise no one would ever be arrested!

I always thought stereotype must be from the 19thC photographic technology but that never made a lot of sense. This explains it!

That was my position until reading this - now I think it should be broadcast live 😁

Yes, I was in college with a guy from Kenya and he'd talk about this in terms of going out camping - that people who didn't know better tended to camp next to waterholes and then get literally squashed when hippos arrived en masse at night to drink. No other animals were the issue, just hippos.

I've seen it argued that the 'business owners' themselves are very likely to drive in, and simply find it very difficult to imagine that their customer base isn't just a mirror of themselves. This seems so dim-witted that I have my doubts, but who knows.

It was a v big deal as part of the higher ed response to the Crash. TCD and UCD formed an alliance they called “a research superhighway” (!) to save the economy (?!) and 3U was trying to rival that. There were a LOT of meetings, launches and initiatives and then…silence.

Their own explanation is hilarious too: totally committed to rebranding but also absolutely refuse to give up their old brand 🤷‍♀️

I’m old enough to remember the 3U Partnership, which I don’t think I’ve seen mentioned in a while!
Taoiseach launches 3U Partnership
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny together with Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn today announced details of the 3U Partnership, a major collaboration between NUI Maynooth, Dublin City University (...

I’m shocked!! Still, all the more Quality Street for me!
November 19, 2025 at 2:04 PM
Are they all the same price? Cos all other things being equal surely everyone chooses Quality Street??

That would be a great idea - I do wonder the extent to which transport links would affect that - Dundalk and Belfast are linked by a direct and fast trainline. Derry is so much more cutoff from across the border.
