I'm glad it's not as difficult as it looks. 😅

I wonder if there's a market big enough (& ofc it sucks that there needs to be) for something with a powered collapsing ramp that actually has a decent angle for loading and unloading. Or some similar solution for people who can't lift a chair out.

Heck, that could be condensed into one option if it requires the same equipment to handle. Unless they'd be using these drop-downs to do statistics on occurrence rate because the relevant people they (theoretically) direct it to don't see any reason to keep accessible and trustworthy records.

The other one isn't? Baffling, because I see them move/remove that one constantly for displays.
September 2, 2025 at 4:42 PM
You know, I hadn't considered the loading/unloading process somehow. Does the front of the trike fold down into something akin to a ramp? I get that it would still be too steep to really ramp in and out but it seems like it would be better than having to lift over the front lip.

Is the one on the Rockhead side still bolted down? There shouldn't be any need to move that one for product, unless they did it for the charity hot dog tent that was there a while ago.

This is also seen in how people react to children. One person can be an anomaly, but the massive amount of people who react to the presence of children with disgust and impatience indicates a huge societal problem with our ability to tolerate joyful spontaneity - a thing that's vital for our health.

To be honest, I think the world would benefit from a multifaceted approach (including big changes to the built environment) that encourage us collectively to be publicly whimsical. & the common response of being too tired to want to deal with that shows the need for economic & social change as well.
September 2, 2025 at 3:50 PM
I think there's also a culture of absolutist defeatism we have to overcome for this. Yes, kids are super unpredictable, and someday, even when we do well by them, something will happen. There is still a point in making things better (with urgency). See also: our response to climate change.

I also enjoy how the small stations are easy to navigate because they're very standardized - no reinventing the wheel on fundamentals even if the surface buildings are unique and the inner details grant some local flair. They were probably fairly inexpensive too! Accessibility features needed though

Ok so you're saying you didn't take that unbelievably brave/crazy way to escape the circ

because like

fucking...

no thank you on that

I've had a cop yell at me from the sidewalk that I needed a flashing back light on my bike. Cops legitimately don't know jack shit about any law whatsoever

don't worry guys we're losing money on every development but we can make up for it in volume
In 2023, all the properties along Mount Edward Road generated $158k in tax revenue.

At 2.7km long and 10m (3 lanes) wide, the road has an annualized upkeep cost of something like $100k per year.

Leaving ~$58k per year for every other service needed by the 138 homes on it.

I'm surprised that there's no "Blocking traffic (DISPATCH)" option

Love to see the overhead decor come back in a new evolved form. And year-round pedestrianization is huge!
August 28, 2025 at 3:22 AM
Last time I 311'd a car parked in a bike lane, the operator said they would send someone down there within 2-3 days to see if it's still there, lol

I think, to your point, the decline of the particular type of person I'm describing aligns pretty well chronologically with it being any amount more acceptable for women to have any other special interest whatsoever. At some point the brain probably does this or you got Sent Somewhere, unfortunately

She has an immaculately organized collection of china plates or commemorative spoons in a cupboard somewhere that no one is allowed to touch, complains about things that no one else notices, and doesn't like things that are "too noisy", too. But her generation, of course, didn't have autism.
August 28, 2025 at 1:14 AM
I am autistic, none of those things are special interests of mine, and I would love to hear someone talk "too much" about any of them because they all seem really interesting. Personally I'm not really a fan of describing autistic-coded communication as inherently some kind of punishment!
August 28, 2025 at 1:06 AM
"How come autistic people don't just make social norms and normalized behaviour their special interest?"

Their grandma who is a constant stickler for really specific table etiquette rules for no reason at all and otherwise never really says much to them:

I would suggest:

WARNING: We have seen cyclists climb and ride over vehicles parked in the bike lane. For your vehicle's safety, please find another place to park.

but I'm not sure if that's too wordy

Is the bridge bikeway closed?
August 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM
This is probably the craziest thing I've taken home by bike, but I suppose it's not even in the top 5 heaviest if we include people.
