I’ve started The Anti-Theist Corner — a newsletter where I’ll write from a progressive, anti-theistic, secularist lens

The first piece is on a UK court convicting an atheist refugee for burning a Quran — a dangerous expansion of de facto blasphemy laws

This is the part that sticks with me the most. The fact that he was assaulted was used against him.

If anything, being an assault victim should be a mitigating factor but we live in a society that forgoes all consistency, logic and fairness when it comes to religion.

I have remarked to people that TV is the last remaining mass-consumed media where we haven’t developed a monoculture.

All of the “Best of 2024” lists have reinforced that for me. There’s so much variety from publication to publication in TV lists that you don’t see for music, film etc.

Omg woke up super early to watch it and ngl we would have killed it. Next season 🤞
Can't wait to watch the new Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Amazon Prime Video tonight...even if my "Swift Ascenders" teammates @aislingmurph.bsky.social and @abhirajl459.swifties.social didn't make the cut to roast host Colin Jost ;)

Waking up this morning, I still couldn’t believe that last night wasn’t simply a “fever dream high.”

I wrote about my first time seeing @taylorswift13 in concert last night after falling in love with her music a decade ago for the Toronto Star

‘It became a 10-act masterpiece’: What seeing Taylor Swift live on the Eras Tour for the first time meant for this long-time fan
For Abhiraj Lamba, being a Swiftie is about more than just loving the singer and her music — it’s about being part of a community.

It is strangely dispiriting to feel like this is all happening again - not history, which only happens once, but rather the tone, direction, and content of the reaction. The similarity is deeply, profoundly discomfiting, as if nothing at all has been learned and that even now nothing will change.
