I design soft, romantic knitting patterns and have strong opinions about knit socks. Here you'll find yarn, tea, gardening, and a daily cheerful thing. I used to practice law, but now I'm nobody's lawyer. she/her
I've been knitting several different versions of the same hat pattern this week because I'm working on a project about gauge, yarn construction, and fiber content. Bonus: at the end, I'll have lots of cozy hats!

Sometimes, it's fun to give old knits a little photo shoot and remember what I loved about them in the first place. These are the Amicus Socks, named for some very special friends who helped me get through a rough time.

We had a large family gathering over the weekend, and without even realizing it, I knit an entire sock. What a fun surprise! Alas, the sock is also a surprise, so here's a photo of some other socks instead.

I got to spend the briefest moment in this room full of old books last week, and when I tell you it was the stuff of dreams, I need you to know I am not exaggerating. Not even a bit.

Do you ever feel the perfectionism monster creeping up on you while you’re knitting? Remember, the small imperfections in our projects are signs that human hands made the finished item. We’re not machines. We’re people.

Sometimes a flower has a stem that’s too weak to hold it upright in a vase. When that happens, I like to trim it short and float it in a pretty bowl of water. Here’s a rose getting the float treatment.

I have not one, not two, but three different knit shawls that I need to write the patterns for. Hold me to this: I’m going to have those patterns all drafted and sent to my tech editor by the end of November. Feel free to pester me on social media if I haven’t posted about finishing them by Nov 30.

Digging around for inspiration for next year's designs. You can get ides for knitting projects just about anywhere, you know, and I think that's so fun.

Morning in a knitter's household: coffee and some stray darning needles on the side table.

Spotted this fun little bit of stained glass window at a Girl Scouts event recently, and now I can't stop thinking about having a lobster stained glass window in my house someday.

I'm only two rows (I think) from the end of the Mitered Square Blanket of Doom, plus a lot of ends that need to be woven. It feels weird to have the finish line in sight. Time to start the next row and carry on.

I dunno, guys. I just don’t know anymore. Here’s a bouquet.

I went through a phase this year where I was obsessed with knitting 1x1 rib hats to use up all my DK-weight leftovers. I still have some leftovers but got distracted and stopped knitting the hats. Think it might be time to start again.

I'm dreaming of blanket knitting weather, and while it'll probably be a little while until that time comes, I can still enjoy the ones I've made so far.

And yes, if you look closely, some of them are in fact crocheted. I contain multitudes.

I'm working on finishing a new sample of the Onshore Breeze socks so I can have this pattern updated and ready to go for Socktober. It's getting an expanded size range and a few other improvements. Stay tuned!

The mornings have been so bright and sunny lately, and my roses are drinking it up. I love the marine layer but the moisture brings blackspot, and the roses definitely do not like that. These dry mornings have them so happy.

Just one sleeve left to finish on this t-shirt I've been knitting for myself, and I've been dragging my feet. Time to buckle down and finish it. Stay tuned for a finished project very soon.

I passed by this cute little house the other day while out for a lunchtime walk. It was such a bright, sunny day, and this thing seemed to glow in the light. If houses could talk, I bet this one would sound an awful lot like a happy house cat snoozing in a sunbeam.

It has been an unusually chilly summer here, which means my dahlias that are usually blooming in June are only just now opening up. Still, they were worth the wait.

My kid calls my Staffordshire spaniels my "creepy dogs," and you know what? They are a little creepy, but that's why I love them. I used to scroll through Etsy looking for the perfect pair and squealing, "Oh my gosh, you are so adorably UGLY!"
