Punisher Born by @darickr.bsky.social and Garth Ennis continues to be relevant as our country leaders and their corporate interests continue to make the same mistakes.
There is a Great Beast loose in the world of men. It awoke in dark times, to fight a terrible enemy. It stormed through Europe across the far Pacific, and crushed the evil that it found there underfoot. But when it was victorious, when the crooked cross and the rising sun were done with, the Great Beast's keepers found that it would not go back to sleep. The Beast has many heads, and on its heads are written names: Lockheed. Bell. Monsanto. Dow. Grumman. Colt. And many more. And they are very, very hungry. So the Great Beast must be fed: and every generation, our country goes to war to do just that. A war for war's sake, usually. And one that could have been avoided. But there must be blood, in extraordinary quantities, and Whether it is foreign or American is of no consequence at all. And so, today, at Firebase Valley Forge, our turn has finally arrived.

The boys comic is actually smarter than the show. The problem is that the comic is extremely edgy and layered in this meta satire such that if you don’t get that then it’s just racist.

yeah i've never read the comics but i can still see where they've sanded down the edges

sometimes i don't like it when they do that -- like Mark Millar's "Wanted" which turned it from something offensive but interesting into something mildly ugly and boring. but here, i'm betting it was necessary

As someone who read all the comics when they came out, I was really trepidatious about the show at first because the comic is so...Ennis, the show is so much better.

My experience with Ennis is that he's actually better when he's constrained--either by reality in the case of his war stories or by participating in a shared universe in the case of his Marvel and DC work--than when he can just go hog wild.
