I think the center left in Europe tend to be easy more immigration sceptical than in the US, actually. Lol at the UK right now, or the scandies.

I think they view those as individual, isolated, unfortunate cases and not evidence of larger systemic issues.

Yeah, I think Europe genuinely views racism broadly as The American Disease and are genuinely incapable of seeing their own racial issues as central because of that.

Yeah, it's not just a US thing. If anything, the GOP is in the middle of the pack in this regard, not a leader.

I'm for reform, but I think it's important to note that there's not two parties, there are two prepackaged blocs that are always shifting. The GOP of 2008 ≠ the GOP of 2025, and it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be the GOP of 2028. Even as reform is necessary, the GOP will have to be part of that.

This will obviously not be easy or cost free, but takes like the above are an argument against electoralism that don't recognize the compound nature of coalition politics in the US system.

I don't think that's in tension with what I said originally. I agree. Some things will get better, some things won't, not all the deserving will be punished, and the union will stagger on.
