Wow, I suddenly picked up a bunch of followers! Thank you! :) Uhh, well, I currently work at The Public's Radio (WNPN 89.3FM) but I'm leaving to pursue my broadcast engineering consulting firm (www.LandRbs.com) full-time in February 2025.

Btw we already had someone to do 11.7% of work tasks, they were called "a secretary" and the suits decided it was cheaper to make everyone do their own emails and schedules.

But you can add up any number of secretaries and still not get one programmer, or architect, or nurse.

I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

I'm going to bet @jayrosen.bsky.social & @dankennedy.net are aware of this brilliantly damning essay...but just in case...

Thx to Celeste for sharing it, too. 👍

Any idea what's up @vineyardgazette.bsky.social? This was the Monday 6:15pm from VH to WH. They stayed with us all the way to the dock. No obvious police presence on the ferry itself. Couldn't tell if they were actual police or USCG.
@wychstreet.bsky.social my ferry home from the Vineyard has a three-boat police escort. 😳 Send lawyers, guns and money!

The corporate oligarchy enshittification continues apace.

Stop & Shop in RI is firing all its pro drivers and packers for grocery delivery (formerly Peapod), with trucks, refrigeration boxes, and dollies.

Pushing to Instacart, which forces gig workers to "personal shop" in personal cars.

Your Intrepid Engineer has a long history of being something of a packrat. And part of that is having a car full of, well, stuff. Mostly tools, but also just random parts and supplies that came in handy. When I started working for L&R full-time, I wanted to organize things better. Here's how I did!

@askamanager.org Re-reading this post, I own my own business, but in the last six months I've had people ask me what it would take to hire me at their company. In all cases, it would be to do the work I do for my own firm, just concentrated at their company to the exclusion of my firm. I always say
should I ignore job postings that don't list the salary?

This is a real blow, both personally and professionally. Greg was not just a hell of an employee at WEOS & WHWS-LP (the first, and so far only, FT employee I've managed!) but a hell of a newsman, and a hell of a radio guy. And a hell of a friend, too. 😭

@aidanryan.bsky.social WBUR pulled a nifty slight of hand on their festival revenue numbers. $3.7 million in gross revenue is nice, but they only said it "turned a profit"? Well how much? $1mil was an anon gift; that's not replicable. So unless the NET revenue was at least $1mil? It lost money.

Something I've been meaning to do a writeup on for some time now is something my partner Michael LeClair has *also* wanted a writeup on: how to do an EPM for an FM radio station. Ergo, here it is! :)

@danmcgowan.bsky.social I wonder how the East Providence "success story" of getting back to pre-2019 levels has been influenced by the opening of the new high school that opened in 2021. It's quite nice in there.
