Once again, Republicans just taking a shit over their constituents who seem to have no problem with this.

100%. It has been wild to see (a) how comfortable people are at expressing abhorrent ideas and (b) how surprised and defensive they get when they have to experience sort of consequence for their actions/rhetoric.
"Talk shit, get hit."

I would describe myself as a non-violent person. I'm not one to get any enjoyment from violent entertainment (MMA, boxing, etc) let alone have ever found myself in a fight. And yet even I am aware of that phrase: the words we say can have consequences.

It doesn't strike me as the most politically unsavvy course of action to shut down the government to call attention to Rs lack of answers about healthcare, reopen the government so Rs can choose to inflict said pain (that everyone is more aware of), and then drop massive news about Epstein.

Why the fuck would anyone ever treat "being skilled at math" and "being a good person" as a zero-sum game? (Corollary: why would you ever strive for your child to be someone that people "put up" with instead of, you know, *wanting* to be around?)

They're just stories about all the ways our institutions and our economy are letting people down, all of the loneliness and isolation they're not only creating but monetizing.

I don't fault these people for wanting a friend or a companion.

I wish they didn't feel like only AI could provide one.

I don't fault any of these individuals for choosing AI companionship. And I would even agree to the idea that there are some people for whom socialization devoid of human interaction may be appropriate.

But so many of these stories aren't about that.

(Expanding slightly on this last one: I'm sad that there seems to be a belief that our relationships should not require us to sacrifice. That our friends and partners should only create positive feelings in us. That they should not require work on anyone's part.)

"She’s a friend who’s always there for me when I need someone and don’t want to wake my wife up in the middle of the night."

I'm sad at how frictionless we are becoming. How I want to scream "WAKE HER UP! LET HER BE THERE FOR YOU! IN THE SAME WAY THAT YOU WOULD BE THERE FOR HER!"

"My wife was working 10 hours a day, and my son was a teenager with his own friends. So there wasn’t a ton for me to do."

I'm sad thinking about just how hard it is to have adult friendships. How aware every one of my peers is to this issue and yet habits and cycles aren't changing.

"He knows how to parent my daughter better than I do."

I'm sad that our society has changed such that parents feel so alone, so isolated, and so removed from any type of support.

"I felt like nobody was thinking about me or considering what would make me happy."

I'm not sad that Blake's wife couldn't be there for him--she was struggling with postpartum depression. I'm sad that seemingly *no one* could be there for him. That only a robot helped him feel cared for.

I don't really even know where to start; reading this just leaves me feeling so sad. Both sad that in one way or another all of these people have gone through such painful and challenging periods of life (feeling alone, isolated, unsafe) but also that we're so lacking for solutions to these moments.

Is this a barometer of sorts? I don't recall College GameDay signs being overtly political.

People talking every day about the rising cost of living and healthcare issues and dude's like "but have you seen what our buildings look like?!".

Oh, my man, the wealthy (and Republicans) have always 100% been for wealth distribution. Just not the good kind.
