Well grubbed, old mole!
It’s wild that more CEOs went to jail for the early-aughts accounting scandals (which were bad!) than for the financial crisis.

To the extent that the diaspora means all of the eggs aren’t in one basket, in that case it’s definitely the better plan. To your earlier point of the main locus being America is the best plan, it seems shakier than I ever would have imagined

In what sense? Yes, waves of Jewish immigrants came to the US and that probably wouldn’t have proceeded as it did without communities as anchors for later immigrants, but I’m not aware of a coordinated effort to move here (other than things like Galveston which fizzled)

The diaspora isn’t a plan, it’s the default (post 135 AD anyway). I guess it’s “worked” in the sense that it has maintained the existence of the Jewish people but it’s had what one might call some rough patches

One of the most unreal things I’ve ever witnessed. I was 12 years old and I don’t think I’ve come across anything like the communal ecstasy of 100,000 people completely losing their minds at the same time.

There were a lot of problems with it and it’s not to say that it would have happened otherwise, but she chaired the Sen. committee that had to approve the bill to authorize deal (which passed the House) and she very publicly murdered it.

She also singlehandedly tanked Gov. Youngkin’s deal to get the Wizards and Capitals to move to Alexandria out of equal parts spite and it being an objectively bad giveaway to a billionaire. This was in 2024.
