I think my fundamental beef with crypto-maximalists is that their guiding principle is, in practice, "look how many new things we can add Money to", whereas my personal mission is to expand the set of things that can be done without involving money at all

This is Grogu's Dagobah era
Imagining a big guy named Grongus. He lives in a swamp and grows mushrooms. He has a pet snapping turtle named Friend. Friend hates him but Grongus accepts this as part of Friend’s snapping turtle nature. Grongus wears overalls and a sun hat. He is shy but friendly and loves to talk about mushrooms.

Post this at anyone who says words can't be violence:
"... an announcement of the final stages of our decades-long passage into the Information Age, a paradigm shift that the classic liberal firewall between word and deed (itself a product of the ... Enlightenment) is not likely to survive intact."
Tired of all this modern discourse? Please enjoy some vintage discourse from 1992 (cn for sexual assault) that raises a lot of questions that are still extremely relevant. This piece is a classic of internet history.

because nobody seems to know how to message things for normal people, let me take a stab:

when apple buys ads on twitter, they are funding actual nazis.
Twitter announced that it would begin sharing ad revenue with content creators on its platform for the first time.

The first beneficiaries appear to be high-profile far-right influencers who tweeted before the announcement how much they’ve earned as part of the program.

Far-right Twitter influencers first on Elon Musk’s monetization scheme
The first beneficiaries appear to be high-profile influencers like Andrew Tate, DC Draino, Ian Miles Cheong, Benny Johnson and Ashley St. Claire.

It's the pinnacle of libertarian "you are what you own" shitheelism that the devs, high on their "usernames are domain names" supply, thought it was more important to block names that look like phishing than names that contain actual abuse
i am just catching up on this but it seems pretty bad (and outright deluded) to launch a social network without explicitly blocking people from using the most well-known racial slur in the english language as a username

Cops in San Francisco attacked a group of children at an annual skate event today using riot gear causing a mass panic.

Completely unprovoked, cops kettled, beat, and fired munitions at the teens. 50-60 were trapped by cops w/o food, water, or medical for hours from the afternoon past midnight.

team swinub represent! we are all sleepy hairy mastodon pigs
Silly custom feed idea: assign a random "team" to each user, as a function of their user ID. Each user only sees the other posts from their teammates in the feed. A scoreboard tracks total likes for each team.

"average person is ya boi tarantula dick" factoid actualy just statistical error. average boi has tarantula hairy balls at best. Tarantulas Georg, who lives in cave & fuckz over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Bluesky is for people who are terminally online in the “it’s ya boy tarantula dick” sort of way while Threads is for people who are terminally online in the “everything in my life is Content” sort of way

We don't even get plumage, so decorate yourself like a bower bird!
Hey. You. You should wear the thing that you think is too weird or silly or young-looking for you.

Life is short and society is made up. Decorate yourself however you want.

Plus we're basically in the apocalypse and the ONE COOL THING about apocalypses (according to movies) is fashion.
