I'll be reviewing applications for this in a few days, so there's still time to get touch if you're interested.
I'm looking to recruit a PhD student to study patterns of local adaptation and introgression across the spruce hybrid zone in the Rockies near Calgary. Projects can include field work, bioinformatics, pop gen theory, or comparison to plant/ conifer species

Happy to announce that our „newest old tool“ autoMLST2.0 is out and published. You need an accurate and easy to use tool to build #phylogenetictrees from #bacterialgenomes: academic.oup.com/nar/advance-...
AutoMLST2: a web server for phylogeny and microbial taxonomy
Abstract. Accurate and accessible phylogenetic analysis is essential for understanding microbial taxonomy and evolution, which are integral to microbiology

Very excited to see this out from @metallophyte.bsky.social's lab looking at plasticity and adaptation to environmental stressors! Led by @bangorcosepgr.bsky.social student Sarah Coates!
Our new paper shows that plasticity that has evolved to deal with one stressful situation, can help plants to adapt rapidly to new stressful situations. doi.org/10.1073/pnas... @meebangor.bsky.social @rbgkew.bsky.social @ukri.org @pnas.org

👀 Enjoyed this perspective on the evolution of human commensalism! We need to quantify the degree to which species have evolved/adapted to anthropo environs and clearly define those environs. Plus I learned a neat new word: "synurbic". #drosophila would be great models for some of this!
