Eliminating Black voices from newsrooms doesn't make journalism stronger and it certainly makes our democracy weaker. Ensuring that marginalized communities get covered in mainstream news is more important than ever, especially as these very communities are under attack.
Racism and democracy are diametrically opposed. And nothing is more fundamental to democracy than the freedom to vote and be fairly represented. That's why the Voting Rights Act— which made real the promise of equal protection—is always a target for extremists. That's what at stake at #SCOTUS today.
