Land value tax fixes this
Cerberus, a private equity firm, buys a chain of hospitals, sells the land on which they sit, and charges them rent. The hospitals struggle and start cutting corners. Patients' care worsens, death rates climb. And Cerberus makes $790 million in profit.
Health care accounts for more than 17 per cent of the U.S. economy, or around $4.5 trillion dollars, but the revenues of just two companies—CVS/Aetna and UnitedHealth—account for nearly one in every seven dollars the nation spends on health care.

This is revisionist history. There was significant anti-Tom sentiment. Zuck is never Zuck without Tom.
You know who people didn't "turn against"? MySpace Tom that's who

It sounds worse than it is, but nonetheless it’s fairly accurate to describe Tyler Cowen as a blogger and podcaster supported by a patronage.

I’ve enjoyed the Marginal Revolution podcasts but have to admit they’ve lowered my esteem of Cowen and Tabarrok.

In one episode they’re discussing when (1920s? 1950s?) something like a carbon take should have been imposed. It doesn’t seem to occur to them that a cap on GHGs solves this problem!

If you read every tweet to implicitly have the preface “It seems to me”, they’re somewhat more tolerable

I think you absolutely can do meaningful and politically relevant activism from within academia, but this mostly looks like unglamorously plugging away at some politically relevant hard empirical problem in a rigorous way, rather than writing provocative manifestos.

@malcolmbarrett.malco.io is chapter 6 supposed to be a placeholder only for now? I’ve seen but not read your paper with a similar title www.r-causal.org/chapters/06-...

I’m an early fan of Scott Cunningham’s book, Nick Huntington-Klein’s book and Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham’s YouTube lectures but the pedagogy of the “Asking Causal Questions” section in this book by @lucystats.bsky.social and @malcolmbarrett.malco.io is the best I’ve seen www.r-causal.org/chapters/05-...
