It is because they cannot fathom a society where they hold no advantage or privilege. They see themselves as superior and refuse to accept a future where their supremacy is impossible.
It’s wild to think about how people feel that MeToo, Black Lives Matter, etc went too far as we watch the rights of women and the safety of Black people being further stripped away.
It is just part of the same pattern as we’ve always seen: any inch towards equality is seen as an existential danger.
