"Compartmentalization":

In forestry, we know that trees cannot 'heal'. Instead, they seal their wounds away under layers of themself.

In both this image and the inspiration, a character holds up frames of themself displaying various somber expressions, each frame containing another character in the same pose holding another frame, seeming infinite. The expressions range from angry to resigned, with the original work being likened to the stages of grief. In the original work, the figures in each frame are all the same character: Qifrey. This rendition of the image instead uses the artist's fursonas to reflect alternate versions of the same person. In contrast to the original work, the colors of each section are also different in the furry version, with the backgrounds being deep green, blue, red, yellow/gold, and silver/white. The character in the largest frame is a deer: Ilan, the artist's most recent sona and his main sona currently. He's associated with trees, and his background is green. As the frames get smaller, the sonas featured in the smaller frames of the image are ones that the artist made longer ago in their life, with the two smallest frames being former/retired sonas. The wolf character pictured in the center frame is the artist's childhood fursona, which is also signified by the plush cow the character is holding, and calls back to the inspiration, where the smallest frame is the child version of Qifrey shown in earlier chapters.

I was chipping away at this during a mild burnout this month, and what initially felt like an agony of continuous wall-hitting suddenly broke through said wall, into a total epiphany. I loosened up, and just let the piece become weirder and more experimental.

This digital illustration from my monthly experiment project features my character Lubi wielding a sword, as he often does these days. His back is turned to us, sword raised above his head, which is looking towards us. He wears a golden heart-shaped mask that covers the opper part of his face, but shows his eyes. There is a lot of play of texture and colour on display, not overly relying on realism. Most of it is lineless in style. His left arm is covered in a black organic-looking armour with red, blue and green highlights, and it has an eye on the shoulder. A similar veiny organic texture is seen crawling on the right side of his body. The left side of his back has iridescent tiger stripes. There is a heart-shaped hole in his chest, which emits a strong glow. On the left, outside of his chest, there is a pink floating love heart, which is also surrounded in a jagged, stylized glow. Lubi's hair is a heavily, almost abstractly stylized fire coloured in a red and white gradient. It connects down his face into a short beard. The background is a textured, detailed pattern I made by heavily editing and distorting the (public domain) painting Olive Orchard by Vincent Van Gogh. There is some text on the image. In the bottom left corner it has my username and signature, painted in metallic shine. Across the top of the image, there is a reference to an image I saw on tumblr. The image depicted AI trying to correct a sentence someone wrote, saying; "Want to sound less negative? menx'k rxxp qiurezok".
