The last experimental piece of the year is a CGA pixel illustration, with the pose referenced from Edmund Blair Leighton's 'Accolade'.

I was chipping away at this during a mild burnout this month, and what initially felt like an agony of continuous wall-hitting suddenly broke through said wall, into a total epiphany. I loosened up, and just let the piece become weirder and more experimental.

This digital illustration from my monthly experiment project features my character Lubi wielding a sword, as he often does these days. His back is turned to us, sword raised above his head, which is looking towards us. He wears a golden heart-shaped mask that covers the opper part of his face, but shows his eyes. There is a lot of play of texture and colour on display, not overly relying on realism. Most of it is lineless in style. His left arm is covered in a black organic-looking armour with red, blue and green highlights, and it has an eye on the shoulder. A similar veiny organic texture is seen crawling on the right side of his body. The left side of his back has iridescent tiger stripes. There is a heart-shaped hole in his chest, which emits a strong glow. On the left, outside of his chest, there is a pink floating love heart, which is also surrounded in a jagged, stylized glow. Lubi's hair is a heavily, almost abstractly stylized fire coloured in a red and white gradient. It connects down his face into a short beard. The background is a textured, detailed pattern I made by heavily editing and distorting the (public domain) painting Olive Orchard by Vincent Van Gogh. There is some text on the image. In the bottom left corner it has my username and signature, painted in metallic shine. Across the top of the image, there is a reference to an image I saw on tumblr. The image depicted AI trying to correct a sentence someone wrote, saying; "Want to sound less negative? menx'k rxxp qiurezok".

In October's experiment, I wanted to do a mixture between a grittier fantasy feel, and a storybook illustration. I really like the result, the palette feels nostalgic, and I'm happy that I'm finally getting better at remembering to use my photos.

THE TOWER OF CIRITH UNGOL

My character Vampirka is sitting in the center in a pin-up-esque position. She has large pointy ears, big green eyes and a smile with protruding vampire fangs. Her hair is short and purple, and she is wearing a heart-shaped earring on her left ear. She is wearing a tight red top which fully covers her arms, while only half-covering the girls. The shirt is pinned in the middle with a large abstract brooch that matches her earring in style, dropping a sash of silk that was likely supposed to cover the front of her body. It does not do that well. Tattered nearly translucent curtains fly about her from the right side. On the left there appears to be a smooth column, with a thorny rose growing over it on top. In the bottom right corner is a lit candle. There is a thin strip of the outside seen on the left-most edge of the illustration, showing a starry sky, and a fire below.
