This is so disgusting. Rump is a fascist and a wanna be dictator. He needs to be in prison for the many, many, many crimes he has committed. #impeachNOW #STOPfundingGENOCIDE
📌Can somebody tell me why this kind of unhinged, fascist derangement from the President of the United States isn't on the front page of every paper in America, followed by a call for him to resign?
This grotesque nonsense has been normalized long enough.

On the Literature of Ambitious Women
For two of the twelve years it took to write my novel, I didn’t write. When I returned to it, finally, in the early mornings of the pandemic, it felt like coming home. I had, after all, moved back …

And watched upon the Statue of Liberty, this is the heart of America. Anyone who thinks that we should close our doors to those seeking the American Dream knows not what it is to be an American.
America is for everyone who wants to be here and to make our country accepting, tolerant, loving, kind.
Written by Emma Lazarus "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Clackamas-Bands of Chinook-Tualatin-Kalapuya-Molalla tribes. Just as ALL Americans are living on stolen land. ALL Americans are either immigrants or indigenous. ICE is an insult to the tenets upon which our country was founded. A place for folks from anywhere to pursue The American Dream.

My grandfather’s family found their way to Sydney, Australia. Both of them emigrated to San Francisco in the 1920’s and 30’s, where my Scots-Irish dad was born and raised. Go Niners!

During this mass starvation of the Irish people by Britain who was forcibly occupying their land, over a million people emigrated in hopes of finding somewhere to live where they could eat and not watch their children die for lack of food.
My grandmother’s family found a new home in Dunedin NZ.

The Famine is of course code for the mass starvation of the Irish by the British when at least a million Irish died of starvation because they were only allowed to eat potatoes but there was a blight, the potatoes were all bad. There was a simultaneous huge export of food to England as Irish died.

My mother’s family came from Ireland 🇮🇪, France 🇫🇷 , Germany 🇩🇪. My 4X great grandfather was a Union General in the Civil War 🇺🇸, they named Reno, Nevada after him. We won, the South lost (someone should tell them…).
My father is a first gen American. His family left Ireland during “the Potato Famine”.

I’m a mother, an artist, a lesbian.
I was born in the occupied Kingdom of Hawaii whose beloved monarch was imprisoned by greedy white sugar plantation owners who didn’t want to pay tariffs to export their sugar to the US.
My mother’s family missed the Mayflower but got the next ship

Anyone and everyone with any shred of decency who also has political power needs to be putting their foot down, NOW! These so called ICE agents need to be held accountable for the crimes/human rights violations they are committing.
I am a bit of a broken record on this, but are local DAs going to let this continue indefinitely? The ICE agents didn't have any kind of warrant, didn't identify themselves, and then recklessly started firing. Let them argue federal immunity.
A man understandably refused to hand over his ID or get out of the car for a bunch of masked thugs who refused to identify themselves.

And when he drove away, they opened fire on him.

This isn’t how you do any sort of enforcement when your goal is to uphold the law. This is gangsterism.

My new studio space is such a joy! It’s still a huge mess of boxes and piles, still not really making anything, but very excited with all the possibilities ahead. I finally have a space that is not only big enough, but also where I can be loud and messy (yay for power tools!). 🧡

I feel like this pretty much covers my entire creative life.
A very wise student! I think of this Zadie Smith quote, "It’s an unfortunate thing, but it turns out that the perfect state of mind to edit your own novel is two years after it’s published, ten minutes before you go onstage at a literary festival."
