7️⃣ Raids, detention and deportation

The enforced removals of families with children will disproportionately harm women - who are often primary caregivers.

Plans for ICE-style raids on our streets is deeply disturbing.

This isn't just cruel - it is a direct attack on dignity and safety.

6️⃣ Safe for who?

It is extremely dangerous to imply a country can be safe for everyone.

These blanket labels of 'safe countries' erase women's unique experiences, create additional barriers to protection for survivors, and block access to refugee protection.

5️⃣ Undermining protection, penalising women

Proposed changes threaten to make it even more difficult for women to receive much-needed protection here.

Policies that penalise late claims or evidence ignore the reality that many survivors of sexual and gender-based violence delay disclosure.

4️⃣ Limited support to survive

Already, meagre asylum support and the work ban leaves women seeking safety vulnerable to enforced poverty, destitution, abuse, and exploitation.

Limiting access to vital financial support will only deepen this crisis and expose women to further harm.

3️⃣ Unsuitable and unsafe accommodation

Former barracks, prisons, and remote industrial sites are no place for people seeking safety here.

Moving women to remote, large-scale sites will deepen trauma and strip away access to vital support networks.

2️⃣ Forcing families apart

Family reunion saves lives - especially for women and children.

Limiting these safe routes pushes women and children into harm's way and creates layers of generational trauma through forcible separation.

1️⃣ Perpetual limbo, perpetual risk

Proposed changes could trap women in DECADES of uncertainty.

Extending settlement from 5 to 20 years forces women into a cycle of instability and limbo - leaving women at heightened risk of abuse, violence, and exploitation.

We’re delighted to have spoken at a vital event at Parliament tonight on the rise of the right and the weaponisation of violence against women and girls.

Memory, a refugee woman in our network, spoke powerfully about her personal experience and the need to hold those in power to account ✊

📣 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls and the start of the #16DaysofActivism.

No one should flee violence and abuse only to face further harm on their journeys to safety or again in the UK.

But this is the reality for many refugee women.

‼️ Most people seeking safety in the UK are banned from working.

This traps people in poverty, long periods of inactivity, and wastes their skills.

This policy is nonsensical.

At least 133 people died whilst trying to seek safety in the UK last year - the deadliest year on record.

Yet the Government doesn’t officially count these deaths.

Each death is a tragedy. These fatalities must not be ignored.

The law must change so we can #KnowTheirNames.

Our patchwork course is a space for women to connect, create and relax. 🪡🧶

The group have been busy so far this term creating placemats, potholders and pincushions.

We love how colourful and joyful the pieces are!

Huge thank you to our volunteer who makes this space so welcoming and fun.💜

✊ We will not be silenced.⁣

Over the last few months, we have seen an alarming rise in hostility and hatred towards people seeking safety in the UK.⁣

From anti-migrant protests to online abuse targeting charities like us.⁣

Olivia, a member of our network, research team and Board of Trustees, shares her reflections on our community:

🗣️ "I joined Women for Refugee Women in 2017. I was a different person back then. I was lonely, I had lost hope. I didn't know how I would survive anymore."

🏠Everyone needs somewhere safe to call home.

But in the UK, many refugee women are pushed into homelessness by hostile asylum policies.

Homelessness places women at risk of harm, abuse, and violence.

🗣️ “You’re not allowed to be yourself. People are not open about their sexuality because they’re worried about discrimination, being disowned by their families..."
