On this day in 1869, Timothy Eaton founded T. Eaton Company Limited (Eaton's). It grew to become the largest department store chain in Canada.
The company went bankrupt in 1999.

Today is World Diabetes Day on the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, the leader of a team of scientists who developed insulin. I would argue this is the most significant medical discovery ever. Insulin isn’t a cure, but it can manage a condition that only ended in death.

This day honours the contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
They fought for Canada despite being denied rights by the country.

The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away due to natural causes.

She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

Graham Greene has died.
A Canadian acting icon, he earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Kicking Bird in Dances With Wolves. He also won a Grammy, Gemini and Canadian Screen Award, along with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award. He also earned a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.

45 years ago today Terry Fox was forced to call off the Marathon of Hope at Thunder Bay. He showed a nation what determination and leadership meant. Terry has stayed in our hearts ever since.
