“ワシントンD.C.の銃撃犯は、トランプ政権が亡命を認めたアフガニスタン出身の男性のようです。この亡命を認めたことはトランプの誤りだったと責めるべきではありません。2020年の決定は正しかったのですが、この件に関しては悪い結果になってしまいました。問題は銃です。”

The DC shooter appears to be a man from Afghanistan who the Trump administration granted asylum. The response should NOT be that this granting of asylum was a mistake Trump should be blamed for. That 2020 decision was the right one, tho in this one case it turned out badly. The problem is the guns.

In 1945, the US Army put out a training manual designed to equip rank and file soldiers with the tools to spot and combat incipient fascism were it to emerge in post-war America. Those lessons are just as American as Miller's illiberal bigotry, and worth remembering today. bsky.app/profile/seth...
The first fascistic tactic to look out for is a hate campaign against a particular religious, racial, or ethnic group. Like, for example, let's say a candidate emerges who calls all people of one nationality "rapists" and "criminals," while promising to ban immigrants from only one religious group.

The propagandists on X and in the broader right wing media are working to convince Americans that multi-racial democracy and religious pluralism are ackshually foreign and nefarious forms of cultural Marxism that seek to destroy "our western civilization." It's fascism 101. bsky.app/profile/seth...
Fascinating take on the un-patriotic nature of today's woke American education that conservatives like Chris Rufo and Ben Shapiro will work to undo...oh wait, I'm sorry, these screenshots are from a 1954 pamphlet by an antisemitic and pro-McCarthy organization called "Modern Paul Reveres." My bad.

What Norman Lear didn't fully take on board was the possibility that the future could belong to the theocratic bigots of the moral majority with the Pat Buchanan-ite white nationalist bigots who were very much on the back foot in the 1970s, but whose forces were gathering steam for the fight ahead.

The premise of All in the Family was that the moral arc of American culture could bend toward justice as long as we tapped into our fundamental human decency (Edith) and the idealism of young people (Meathead and Gloria) so as to gradually drag scared reactionary bigots into the modern world.

Trump’s second administration is like a rewrite of All in the Family in which a reactionary bigot from queens who basically wants to be liked by the people he meets is instead influenced by his wife Ann Coulter (not the lovely Edith) and his child Nick Fuentes & his live in “friend” Stephen Miller.

Trump is an instinctive bigot, but he doesn’t have the attention span to be an ideologically committed white nationalist. He also craves approval from everyone (e.g. his Mamdani meeting). That’s why Miller’s role as Trump’s white nationalist whisperer has been so important. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

In 2005 Duke undergraduate Stephen Miller wrote this piece framing multiculturalism as a form of unpatriotic segregationism. He has always been a maladjusted white nationalist who doesn’t understand what the US is. bsky.app/profile/seth...
Stephen Miller wrote this piece for the Duke student newspaper TWENTY YEARS AGO. You won't find a single talking point in here that a) wasn't already a stale Limbaugh-esque talking point in 2005 and b) isn't also the cutting edge of GOP messaging about universities today.
