An awful story all the way around, including this reaction from the school that was set to be an opponent before Antioch forfeited.

Classic example of sports being given outsize import at the high school level.

Wild times when you have to read succeeding skeets SUPER carefully or else you get the impression the US almost began a war in Europe.

"There are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new..."

Reading Jon Pessah's book "The Game" about MLB labor and business, and it's satisfying to read fellow players putting Lenny Dykstra in his place when he attempted to undermine the union in 1994.

It's OK for kids to have something that adults don't understand, or even that adults don't know about at all.

He also wrote this passage, apparently not realizing that it illustrates exactly the opposite of what he claims it does: that conservative writers got to bypass rigorous editorial scrutiny entirely in James Bennet's NYT Opinion section.

If that guy's name rings a bell, it's possibly because he was the guy who wrote this wild piece for the Atlantic in which he said an HR person chided him for saying he liked a Chick Fil-A sandwich, and that he didn't understand basic false equivalencies. archive.ph/7Yt7g

BRUTAL called third strike on Chapman, especially in context of the zone in the last inning. Giants announcers are super mild mannered when it comes to this stuff and they straight up said it wasn't a strike. www.mlb.com/gameday/7763...

I went to the 2002 Yankees-Giants game where Clemens plunked Bonds, but the other thing that stuck out was during BP, when Bonds hit the Utz sign behind the RF bleachers on the fly, and the regulars around me said they'd never seen that before. Spoiler: Google Earth suggests that was 435 feet.
