Might be a hot take, but I, for one, don't think you should be hauled off by a team of undercover cops simply for having written an op-ed they didn't like.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

Disturbing on so many levels. College students in America shouldn’t fear being taken off the street by plainclothes, masked law enforcement (?) for reasons unknown.

To avoid further chilling speech, the feds, at minimum, have to be palms up about the allegations against her.

These attacks may have occurred in small towns but this is a national issue.

We've seen authorities from coast to coast run similar playbooks, from LA suing a reporter for publishing records it gave him to a suburban Chicago mayor having a reporter ticketed from asking questions.
Join us to hear from journalists at the frontlines of attacks on press freedom, featuring the Marion County Record (raided in 2023), Atmore News (arrested later that year), and Clarksdale Press Register (censored last month).

Master class from @TheAtlantic in reporting in two of the most fraught scenarios in journalism:
1) national security’s at stake
2) you’ve become the story

Extreme transparency. Don’t editorialize.

The Justice Department instructing Judge Boasberg to yield to “the mandate of the electorate” and stop asking questions about defiance of his court order is honestly one of the most demented and disturbing things I’ve ever seen in a legal filing. It comes pretty close to a claim of divine right.

Remember this the next time he impugns another journalist.

So now the White House isn’t just using federal investigations to pressure universities to censor speech the Trump administration dislikes — but to create a legal loophole for ICE to physically get its hands on foreign students with those views.

1) The group was for a particular op. It wasn't some general, persistent admin group chat. Low chance sitting on it yields more

2) Once the strikes happened, he lost plausible deniability of the group's authenticity. That's a danger zone for him, legally

The minute you do, they come for those members of the bar who have less power and resources.
Trump just directed the DOJ to attempt to disbar attorneys who take legal action against the executive branch while also indicating they will do the same to immigration attorneys.

Lawyers have all kinds of ethical duties including avoiding conflicts of interest. Those had to be implicated in the Paul Weiss/Trump deal — but they for sure are now. Cannot see how this firm moves forward when it’s put up its most fundamental commitment to justice as collateral. What’s left?
This article clears up one important point: Paul Weiss' partners were in on this deal. I had thought (hoped) that this was an example of a misguided leader. Instead, Paul Weiss rank and file partners approved this course. They all bear the shame and responsibility. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
