Enjoying hardware and games from ISA to AGP graphics, with a special love for old sound cards.
Aaah, that explains it, thanks.
I haven't been to Starbucks in many years because personally I basically live on Cola only and my friends are coffee nerds who would rant for hours about how SB is cheapest coffee with syrup sold at expensive prices (and then go on about brewing😴).

Yeah, my only POST card is two digit debug code display only.
Might as well stop trying at this point, I'm so tired of it.

Don't know about +5V, but -5V is generated in the PISA riser according to the person who designed it.
Anyway, I don't own a multimeter to begin with, but even if I did I couldn't keep it pointed at something as small as a trace with the tremors from my disability, so I guess I'm screwed again.

The magic smoke went out before so maybe I shorted something, something blew and now what is left is no longer sufficient?
It could handle the load of the *defective* same card that was still recognized, as well as an AWE64 in addition to the CF adapter/cards before.

Yep.
In both cases, BIOS shows the adapter and I believe it gets as far has "verifying DMI pool data".
But when the card is inserted in the riser, something starts ticking, the screen goes black and the system restarts instead of showing the W98 logo and successfully booting.

I haven't double checked since I figured if not the adapter would not be recognized in the first place, and certainly not successfully boot while the ISA card is disconnected.

IDE to dual CF? Nah, it's not keyed, but the first pins are marked.
The card is powered through the ISA slot of the PISA riser, which stays connected even when I take the card out.

The fans are the only moving parts in there, so how does something make a rhythmic TICK TICK TICK TICK and so on from the moment the system attempts a boot until it reboots?
Just when I had all the perfect parts together!

You were right, thank you!
And the 16 MB module gets recognized, too!
Now I've got access to way more sound fonts!
Still gotta transplant the card back into the thin client, but that's the easiest part.

I found my thermal adhesive tape that I need to put the heatsink back on my thin client's S3 ProSavage iGPU, and my replacement IDE44 to dual CF adapter arrived from Amazon today, so I can finalize my Neoware CA2 build with real ISA sound and all that.

Must be buyer's remorse or Stockholm syndrome.
With all eye candy enabled (including AA and AF), the two fastest cards of 2003 were the 9800 XT... and the 9800 Pro. And then maybe the FX 5950 Ultra.
I wonder which flagship won the next generation, though, they were both strong contenders at least.

I mean if you're not into JRPGs then chances are they just aren't for you, but if you are, these are the best.
