The bare minimum of steps to be considered in compliance with international law and to not be abetting the longest military occupation in postwar history and they've not been taken by France, the UK, Australia, Germany, or even Ireland or Canada.

Gaza appears to be the Achilles’ heel of the idea that the liberal order can be salvaged from the Trumpian onslaught.

The UK does not need to ‘step up a gear’ on defence but to get a new vehicle, focused on real security threats to UK (eg cyber, subsea) and solidarity with Ukraine, not acting as a handmaiden of US global aggression and Israel’s genocide.
Starmer at MSC was his version of Carney at Davos - without the anti-Trump message. Starmer thinks the EU needs to step up a gear or more on defence - whatever the US decides 1/

Prime minister Keir Starmer 👏

The sort of thing you do when you’ve given up actually talking to the voters.
When I lived in Japan, far-right parties used to drive around blaring out propaganda from loudspeaker vans. People saw them as public nuisances at best, dangerous nutters at worst. Interesting to see Matt Goodwin adopt the same strategy.

That’s what they said. But the other two were tiny groups and could have been banned separately. The SNP and LDs copped out.

The French and Czechs have followed suit. Official Europe’s buy-in to genocidal Israel is so deeply embedded.
German foreign minister @aussenminister.diplo.de discredits UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese on the basis of fake news that is easily verifiable. Unbelievable.

Full solidarity with Francesca Albanese.

2 hours at Geneva in November. People who’d already gone through it still had to wait in the line.

Admissions that the UK government knows that Israel has committed war crimes. It needs now to publish its full assessment and then be held to account for its support for Israel.
🔴Did Keir Starmer’s Government Just Accidentally Admit Its Complicity in Israel’s War Crimes?

Two statements by Government ministers, one private and one public, appear to acknowledge for the first time that Israel’s actions have broken international law

High Court squashes Palestine Action ban: a huge victory for freedom of protest and a humiliating defeat for the Labour government.

A huge embarrassment too for the hundreds of MPs (Labour, Liberal Democrat and SNP) who voted for, or abstained, on the ban despite knowing it was wrong.

The SOAS Centre for Palestine Studies event, "Complicit: British Complicity in the Genocide in Gaza", with me and Peter Oborne, is now available on YouTube

Dirk Moses senses ‘an air of desperation’ in recent responses of the pro-Statsrason thinkers. ‘Their catechism is buckling under the reality that the German public—including even some functionaries of the German state—can clearly see.’

@hrw.org may have blocked Omar Shakir & Milena Ansari’s report because it linked Israel’s denial of Palestinians’ right of return to a prosecutable international crime against humanity. So it should, after 77 years of enforcing genocidal mass expulsions.

A defeat for anti-Palestinian repression in the UK. The victory of the Filton protesters is a strong sign to the government to lift the Palestine Action ban, and to the courts to uphold the judicial review.

I only just came across this - it’s really important research and relevant to the controversy over the surveillance threat posed by AI.
I wrote a piece for Jacobin about the misuse of antisemitism scholarship for authoritarian projects and the role German antisemitism scholarship plays in the dehumanisation of Palestinians and the justification of the genocide in Gaza.
Germany has been one of the worst Western countries for whitewashing Israel’s genocide in Palestine. Now it wants to do it with AI.

Hi Nick, it’s really nice to hear from you. Babies above all I fully understand. There will be a recording online.
