As a cemetery caretaker, please, please, please! Do not leave glass items around plots, it is extremely dangerous. When we are working and cleaning leaves up or mowing sometimes we can't see them and then they shatter and spray glass everywhere and people get hurt.

We all know ‘tragedy’ comes from Greek.

‘tragos’ = goat

‘aeidein’ = to sing

So ‘tragedy’ originally meant “goat song.”

Not to be confused with the GOAT song, which is probably “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman.

TFW you were once a mighty king of the forest, and now your afterlife is spent loitering in a regional airport.

If you think traditional publishing doesn’t do *any* marketing, you might just not understand what marketing is.

They can and should do more, especially for their marginalized authors and mid list authors. But they are never doing “nothing”.

Most common issue I’m seeing in manuscripts in 2025 so far:

Every scene is doing one thing and one thing only.

Try for at least two, but all four would better:
- push plot forward
- explore setting
- internal character stuff
- external character/relationship stuff

Do not Google “how to get published”. That is a surefire way to get scammed.

If you want to be traditionally published, remember that money always flows TO the author.

You can go from “I think I want to write a book” to “my book is published” without paying a cent out of pocket.

And here's the last of the definitions for the #NoNonsenseGuideToPublishing before I start getting into the meat of the content!

If there's any term after this you feel like I should've covered, let me know and I'll add it in the official version.

Let's dive in!
Here is part two (of 3) of the definitions for the #NoNonsenseGuideToPublishing. Please see the quoted post below for previous posts.
The next THREE sections of the #NoNonsenseGuideToPublishing are all about definitions!

Because book publishing uses a lot of terms that can be confusing to new authors and folks can get lost in the lingo. To add to the confusion, some of them have multiple meanings, depending on the context.

All I want for Christmas is to pull a loose book from a bookshelf and finally, at long last, find that it opens a hidden door.
