Geriatric punk.
My biggest take away from the course would be that there is still a lot to be researched and understood within the field of communication. Our society changes so rapidly, especially in the last 20-30~ years with new technology, it changes the way we communicate immensely.

For me, the most memorable theory was cognitive dissonance theory. This theory felt really applicable and I can clearly see examples in my own life. From small things like shopping, to larger things like deciding a major, I experience cognitive dissonance often.

Agenda-Setting theory is more relevant than ever. In my experience on social media I see how quickly my algorithm changes. For example, I searched Japan to start a trip plan, then all I saw with Japanese travel content. At the same time, I miss posts from local business and friends.

RELEASE THE EPSTINE FILES. I went to look for a story, and there was a suggested story on my firefox tab without even searching: www.axios.com/2025/11/18/e... This trial, and these files have very much been in the public agenda and heavily covered in the media.

A media figure I have a parasocial relationship with is Joanne Molinaro, AKA The Korean Vegan. This relationship makes me feel calm and reflective. It also makes me want to slow down, cook and connect with my loved ones. She inspires me as well, to live my dreams not live out of fear.

Paramount provides a platform for satire and political commentary, shaping cultural values through channels like MTV and Comedy Central. South Park and The Daily Show use humor to critique authority, media, and culture and encourages questioning of dominant ideas and politicl figures.

I made this meme to describe how I present myself and my achievements on LinkedIn, with the intention of impressing potential employers, my imagined audience. In reality it could be my mom wondering why I list communication as a top skill even though I forget to text her back a lot. 🤫

AI has negatively impacted my education by reducing the validity of my college degree via assumed use of AI, especially since it’s an online degrees. I’ve heard people in my office say, “they all just use AI through school and then they don’t know what they’re doing,” pretty often.

An example of assertive accommodation that I have witnessed is with my dad who is blind. He got a red and white cane a few years ago to navigate and notify other of his disability. He also visited me this year and requested ADA accommodations when we went to cedar point.

When you accidentally step on your cats tail and give them extra pets and/or treats to apologize. This scenario made me think of avoidance, we go out of our way to apologize but our pets usually just act like nothing happened, even if we don’t give extra pets. #UTcommtheory

I would say I respond best to participation decision making. I think we all feel frustrated when outsiders make decisions about our job without consulting us. I think participation can lead to better attitudes, ownership, and sometimes better outcomes or solutions to problems.

With a predicted shortage of 207,980 RNs by 2037 and 200,000 teachers by 2026, the US higher education culture needs a shift. Debt, and unpaid student teaching and clinicals, make it difficult for many perspective students. The culture needs a focus on affordability and flexibility.

Experts from the World Wildlife Fund and Environmental Protection Agency warn about damage caused by litter. When they speak out against littering, it's not opinion, it's science and global evidence. As informed citizens, we have an obligation to listen and act responsibly.

This is the meme I made describing post decision rationalization that I experience after using single use plastic. My cafeteria only has single use styrofoam containers, I have to do something to convince myself that I am not letting Bill Nye down.

I agree with the media multiplexity theory. I have a group chat with my friends on facebook, IG, and text message. The same goes for my sister and my boyfriend, I also text them both as well. I often share memes or videos that I see on a specific platform that is relevant to them.

On Facebook, I sometimes feel embarrassed when my mom posts old photos of me. This falls into the mistake category of boundary turbulence. I don’t want her to feel bad, she’s usually saying something nice, but I feel silly when I see younger me on my profile where others can see.

Carrie and Big from Sex and the City are an example of integration vs. separation. Carrie is open, and constantly trying to have Big be a part of her friend circle, go out with her, and learn more about him. Big keeps his life at a distance, blows off outings and is secretive.

I chose axiom 1 of uncertainty reduction because today I met the new president of my honor society for the first time. It was awkward at first, but then the conversation started flowing. By the end, I found out her birthday is the day before mine, and were only a year apart in age.

One of my coworkers went jet skiing on Lake Erie back in August, and she and everyone she went with got sick. She disclosed that her "ass had been like a waterfall for a week." It was funny, but also like, oh wow okay. She was kind enough to warn us when she blew up the bathroom.

I would say I had a pluralistic family. I don't feel like my family conformed or expected me to conform. My family doesn't fit a traditional mold at all, and they didn't pressure us to go to college or live a certain way. They encouraged us on whatever path we've been on. #UTcommtheory

While my boyfriend was playing video games, I tested violation theory by sitting really close to him. He just made a silly noise and looked at me. We do this kind of stuff often to mess with each other. It's just a way we good off. It is usually taken positively, like hey I'm here!

I am current working full time, going to school full time, and moving. Sometimes, "I," want to call off from work, but the, "me," reminds me that even though I get paid sick time, I have to be respectful of others time. I also know I should save my points for when I really need it.

I think the critical tradition interesting. I felt drawn to the stance on mass media. I think many people feel overwhelmed by the constant barrage of media. There are so many outlets fighting for our attention, it makes it easy to feel overwhelmed and miss the important stuff.
