Many terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems have lost their uniqueness as competitive generalists (think grass, pigeons, etc.) replace endemic species. But that doesn't appear to be the case for all ocean fish.

Huge thanks to a powerhouse co-author team for getting this across the finish line!

Vaccination schedules on the CDC website have already started changing under RFK Jr. So we published a guide to the evidence-based vaccine recommendations in place *before* all 17 members of the advisory panel were abruptly dismissed by the new admin. www.scientificamerican.com/article/see-... 🧪
Here’s Your Cheat Sheet for Vaccine Recommendations Backed by Science

This makes me sick. It’s giving me flashbacks to watching the original Lorax cartoon and having nightmares.

This is devastating—and a potentially massive step backward in the global fight against climate change. Keep the pressure on your representatives—this can't go unanswered.

it's a hard and sad time in science / higher ed in the US right now. on the other hand, lots of PhDs are looking for work, so I wanted to share—

I'm hiring a postdoc!

it's a two-year position at UCSC to do (preferably Bayesian) modeling of marine ecosystems: recruit.ucsc.edu/JPF01892

TRUMP: The NCAA has complied immediately. That's good. But I understand Maine -- is the governor of Maine here?

JANET MILLS: Yeah I'm here

TRUMP: Are you not gonna comply?

JM: I'm going to comply with state and federal law

T: You better do it bc you're not gonna get any federal funding at all

NOAA has required us to discuss climate change impacts of our work in grant applications for years. This is *all habitat restoration grants*.

The climate impacts of this are pretty clear. The infrastructure impacts of this will be far reaching too.

NOAA is on the chopping block, and that’s infuriating. The scientists at NOAA make us safer and stronger. They forecast weather, track wildfires, provide tsunami warning, respond to climate change, and more, and they are especially important for coastal communities.

Should be interesting (and probably disappointing) to see our upcoming water chemistry sampling results, plus see the lingering effects of runoff on the water column and ocean floor over the next year.

We saw it after the Woolsey Fire, I can imagine the result is any better this time around.

To update people on the NSF PRFB situation: despite the court challenge and rescinding the original memo, the NSF has continued to comply with the executive order. They have not communicated with us at all and our paychecks are still canceled indefinitely. I know people who cannot pay their rent.
