IN VIRICONIUM (M JOHN HARRISON, 1982): A sharp left turn into urban picaresque, more Disco Elysium than Moorcock. Hit me really close to home. Tempted to call it an AIDS crisis story were it not for the countless personal tragedies like these, playing out in different shades, over the last century

Gf wants to know what I want from the pizza place before I come over. My usual isn't available. I want to reply "Order me a piperi bonapino pipo" because of echolalia, but I don't want to be a bother, or make her think I'm having a stroke again

TALES OF MAJ'EYAL (2012): Tried this a couple years back and was driven off by its very Diablo approach to loot. Came back and cranked up the difficulty to Nightmare & having a much better time, even if I'm struggling to get as far. Games like these are a lot more fun when carelessness gets u killed

CHRONO CROSS (1999): I want to love this game so bad, Square was at the height of their power in '99, fingertips testing the membrane of the sublime. But this is my 6th time trying to keep a run going past Viper Manor. Battles too ass. Like eating a box of packing peanuts for every bite of Kobe beef

LEGEND OF MANA (1999): Rules. Weird ass game with sensibilities orthogonal to modern spectra of "good" to "bad" design. Words like "streamlined" or "jank" feel inadequate. Characters operate on bizarre but internally-consistent moral logic, like a children's fairy tale from an unfamiliar culture

Having a lot of fun watching original Gundam with Ellen. TV really is the way to go over the compilation movies; so much of what makes the show special is the sense of desperation & exhaustion, watching these kids develop virtues & neuroses as they weather trauma after trauma after trauma

Dreamt I sat on the floor in my old family house with my girlfriend and organized fantasy novels on the shelf. Herb Albert - This Guy's In Love With You came on the stereo. A lovely dream

Taking a moment to appreciate my mom's patience and grace, giving the car aux to a middle schooler who wanted to listen to The Black Mages and novelty ska

I wish the complete works of Ken Ishikawa were translated into english. The Getter saga casts a long, imposing shadow over its genre, and what little of Majuu Sensen & Kyomu Senki has been translated is so tantalizing

What happens is, you see SRWα3MAD GONG鳴らせ at a formative age, then spend the next 20 years sifting through another country's niche toy commercial genre fiction chasing that dragon, that feeling, that moment. You find little glimmering motes of it, furtive treasures in a mountain of detritus

GAOGAIGAR FINAL (1999): I think I liked the show for ten-year-old boys more than the OVA for college-age otaku. Laughably contemptuous of the women its camera wants to fuck. Trades the "Lego Rescue Playset" imagination of the show for Getter Robo/Gunbuster cribs & screaming while punching a CGI cube
