I just finished Chris Dixon's "Read Write Own" and came away skeptical.

Surprised that someone this serious still expects blockchains to unleash a fresh wave of shared prosperity/innovation.

I want to believe! Where are the compelling projects and follows who aren't in the casino contingent?

MAGA morality: Put thousands of federal employees on leave, cut aid that sustains countless lives, demonize your opponents, and then enjoy the suffering of your enemies.

But then - when one DOGE worker is fired for vicious racism -say, "Where's the grace and mercy in this country?"

If Trump is worried about Chinese or Russian encroachment on Greenland, we could figure out who currently controls it and sign some agreement to cooperate with them on defense matters. Who knows, maybe other countries in the North Atlantic region might also want to join.

Anyway, worth looking into.

This is such a beautiful algorithm (and a nice analysis): to check if an array is sorted vs. far from being sorted (many entries need to be changed), just:
- pick an element uniformly at random in the array
- "forget" where it was
- try to find it again via binary search
Repeat this a few times.
<spoiler>
The analysis is not obvious, but yes, that's the idea!

* Repeat O(1) times:
- Pick an index i uniformly at random, let x←A[i]
- Do a binary search for x in A, end at index j
- Return UNSORTED if i≠j
* Return SORTED

Hot take: Jesse Singal is a fine journalist about whom people tell constant lies. That 2018 cover story for The Atlantic about trans kids is actually a sensitive and well balanced piece of reporting. We all could learn a lot from his coverage of science.

Assad regime’s fall in Syria is a symptom of fascist Russia’s weakness and will shrink its power in the east Mediterranean region. Uprising in Georgia is also a sign of Kremlin weakness, which was largely caused by Ukraine’s defiant resistance. Time for all-out aid to Ukraine.
