NEW: Black-footed ferrets were saved by a federal breeding program centered around Colorado.

It was led by Tina Jackson — a USFWS biologist fired by DOGE last month. She's now worried staff and funding cuts could drag the species back to the brink of extinction.

They're going after NEPA which directly protects not just the environment but also the health and welfare of people and their right to have a voice in projects that will impact them. You are a part of the environment. This will harm you. Go comment! www.regulations.gov/document/CEQ...

I'm seeing a lot of support for fired scientists and environmental professionals, which is great

But a lot is phased is "just keep doing your important work," and I need you to know that these are early career people with student loans and no savings, and they need income for food and shelter.

I’m mad now.

This is my masters thesis about shorebirds, wildlife genetics and migratory behavior. Using the list of flagged words from the NSF posted by @darbysaxbe.bsky.social 153 words would be flagged. How many words in your work would be flagged?

This program is designed to support the American scientific workforce. I cannot see the point of this level of self-sabotage.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.

“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion
The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.

yes, we loathe Amazon and Bezos. Sadly, this is the BEST avenue for indie authors to get their books seen. If you find a book you want on Amazon, consider reaching out to the (indie) author directly (1)
