I’ll be presenting this work (and a bunch of unpublished data) at 2.45pm at the #yeast2025 conference 🤓

This collaboration with @merusadhu.bsky.social has also benefitted from the meeting, as we planned more experiments on the river last night 👌

We bought a shaking incubator for new pathogenic yeast work, but the tray came with holes lacking threads 😒

Luckily, Mark Bentley from our @biologyatyork.bsky.social workshop is a legend - he trimmed down the rack and secured it to the tray.

Happy to have this work on the effectiveness of sulfamate based inhibitors on carbohydrate sulfatases out in @pnas.org www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas. #glycotime

The summary is: Current sulfatase inhibitor technology is not effective on S1 carbohydrate sulfatases of the human colonic microbiota.

I spoke with authors/reviewers that had been part of the pilot during the biologists@100 meeting - they were extremely positive about the process.

We also had great first experience with @biologyopen.bsky.social last year.

Only issue with the model is mechanisms to cover APCs are vanishing.
Publishing scientific papers is an obstacle course. There are many aspects to this but lengthy review times are one. That's why I am very excited about the new initiative @biologyopen.bsky.social, @biologists.bsky.social open access journal: Fast & Fair 1/n 🧪

Q for the hive-mind 🧠: What transfection reagents do people like for big constructs these days? (I am thinking #HSV encoding BACs, ~170 kb). We've recently had poor performance with Trans-IT LT1 and Lipofectamine 2000, our two go-tos. Target cells are U2OS. Suggestions or RTs greatly appreciated 🙏
