"We bring a shepherd’s crook to offer the labour of all who have the care of
animals upon our farms."

These words were spoken as the shepherd's crook was presented to the Honorary Chaplain of Yorkshire Agricultural Society at the Harvest Thanksgiving this morning.

You can watch back on YouTube.

"September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evenings a prophetic breath of autumn." - Rowland E. Robinson

We found the above quote on a list of 'September quotes'; it seemed the best fit for this gorgeous image from Jez of York.

"Looking through a window" takes on a whole new meaning when you work for York Glaziers Trust.

A panel of the Rose Window was removed by YGT to allow them to examine how the restoration following the fire of 1984 is holding up to the tests of time.

Are you feeling more William the Conqueror or William Rufus this Monday morning?

Either way, this photo perfectly encapsulates why we strongly suspect that two different carvers made the figures of the Kings Screen.

Salvator mundi, salva nos, qui per crucem et sanguinem redemisti nos:
auxiliare nobis, te deprecamur, Deus noster.

O Saviour of the world, save us, who by the Cross and the Blood have redeemed
us: help us, we beseech you, our God.

September. Late summer or autumn?

This image from Jez of York compresses centuries of rooftops into a beautiful golden vista so redolent of historic York.

We love the way in which the lancet windows of the North Transept, the iconic Five Sisters, stand out so beautifully.

Sick of experts? Our visitors disagree!

Claudia left us this lovely 5-star review on TripAdvisor:

"Fabulous Historical Tour. Had a tour through the Minster with guide Steve. Was an hour long tour included with admission. Very interesting anecdotes about most parts of the church."

Let the morning light filtering through the Quire as centuries of kings continue their patient vigil brighten up your Monday.

Or in other words, happy Monday, have a great week.

We talk about our stonemasons a lot; we are proud of the exemplary work they do to conserve our wonderful building.

We are also proud to be part of the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship, a partnership of 14 Anglican cathedrals that offer apprenticeships to the next generation.

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the creation of the first war memorial to the women who died in World War One.

The Five Sisters Window was rededicated during a special service 100 years ago that was the focus of international attention.

We often talk about "leaving your mark" on this holy place.

None have taken this quite so literally as generations of choristers, who have left their names and initials carved into the tops of the stalls in the Quire. Some of these inscriptions appear to be over 100 years old.

We've rebranded. You may now call us Eboracum Monasterium.

The Romans have taken over St Stephen's Chapel. Meet them to learn about York's Roman past, make your own hand-stamped IX Legion dog tag, and see objects from Roman life.
