"September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evenings a prophetic breath of autumn." - Rowland E. Robinson

We found the above quote on a list of 'September quotes'; it seemed the best fit for this gorgeous image from Jez of York.

It's been astronomical autumn for over an hour now, guess I should accept it : /

Here's Autumn from the Four Seasons mosaic, dating from c. AD 250 and found in Toft Green, York, in 1853.

This morning we will host the Ordination and Consecration of The Reverend Leah Vasey-Saunders, who is to be Bishop of Doncaster.

We hope you will join us in holding Leah in your prayers.

🎥 This service will be streamed via the Minster's YouTube Channel.

Salvator mundi, salva nos, qui per crucem et sanguinem redemisti nos:
auxiliare nobis, te deprecamur, Deus noster.

O Saviour of the world, save us, who by the Cross and the Blood have redeemed
us: help us, we beseech you, our God.

September. Late summer or autumn?

This image from Jez of York compresses centuries of rooftops into a beautiful golden vista so redolent of historic York.

We love the way in which the lancet windows of the North Transept, the iconic Five Sisters, stand out so beautifully.

A (rather damp) fox for Friday. Despite my best efforts, I’m afraid it spotted me, but wasn’t disturbed ☺️

An evening walk on York’s medieval city walls.

The earthworks on which it is built are older, and this stretch probably follows the western perimeter of the Roman colonia - the civilian area of the city south of the River Ouse, with the military fortress on the other side.

A golden Grand. York’s five-star hotel and spa, in the prestigious former headquarters of the North Eastern Railway Company, basks in evening sunlight.

Passed someone near the Minster saying “by candlelight” and from now on it’ll be Carol’s Bike Handle Light” every Christmas, so far as I’m concerned.

I've had worse views from my seat!

This week I had the pleasure of lending my voice to assist the first visiting choir of the summer. After many years in choral music, it's still a treat – especially with this view of the Great East Window of York Minster, dating back to 1405!
